  • Flange sound in Synchron Strings Pro...

I'm having an issue, which was marked as resolved previously. See here:

    https://forum.vsl.co.at/topic/56830/resolved-hearing-a-flange-in-synchron-strings-pro

I now get this issue when using Divisimate's Nextmidi Merger Port. I use that to input Midi from my SL88 Grand, a TEC BBC2 breath controller and a Monogram fader bank (eliminates the funky joysticks on the SL88 Grand). None of these send the same Midi CC simultaneously (CC11, CC1 most importantly), so I don't get what is confusing Synchron Player. Using multiple Midi input devices is common, and shouldn't be impacting sample playback this way.

None of my other libraries (OT Berlin, SA SSO, CSS... etc) have an issue using the Nextmidi Merger Port.
This issue is clearly not resolved. Please advise...

    Thanks

  • Two reasons come to mind for a "flange sound".

    A) Double note. Please check whether the flange sound tones are started by two (or more) identical notes.

    B) Velocity-XF. With this controller you can “drive” through the different layers of the libraries. When transitioning (fading) from one layer to another, it can happen that two different notes are played for the same sound. This is particularly noticeable with solo instruments, as if a small ensemble were suddenly playing. B) is therefore more noticeable with solo instruments and not with ensemble libraries.

  • We know of cases where affected users work with a master keyboard that supports multiple "keyboard range layers." If those layers overlap, the keyboard will trigger the played note more than once, causing the phasing of samples.

That would be scenario A from @Beat Kaufmann 's post above.

  • No, there's only one layer (as seen in the thread I referenced above).

  • In fact, If I choose the keyboard port as the single source (Midi input in Logic) it doesn't happen. It's nothing to do with the keyboard... it's related to the Nextmidi Merger Port, and how the Synchron Player handles input from it.
