  • Ryzen 5700x clock speed fluctuations when using VEP

    Hello everyone,

I'm turning to you for some insight and advice because I'm dealing with a technical issue that I just can't seem to solve, despite trying everything I know.

I'm running Vienna Ensemble Pro 7 (latest version) on a dedicated machine with the following specs: Ryzen 5700x, 64GB DDR4 3200, GA-AB350-Gaming 3 motherboard (BIOS last version, very stable), last AMD drivers, 5 SSDs (Crucial/Samsung), a 500W BeQuiet power supply, and up-to-date Windows 10. The processor is set to its default clock speed with factory boost enabled, and I’ve applied the "High Performance" power plan in Windows to prevent the CPU from dropping below its base frequency. Cooling is excellent, and the processor never exceeds 60°C under load.

Here’s the issue: when I start VEP and load the sessions, everything seems to run smoothly. However, once my "Master" computer connects to the VEP machine, the CPU (5700x) begins fluctuating between 900 MHz and its maximum boost frequency, constantly adjusting according to the load. This fluctuation causes severe performance issues in VEP, making it practically unusable.

Interestingly, when I swap out the 5700x for an older Ryzen 1600, the problem completely disappears. The frequencies remain stable throughout, and everything works as expected.

I’ve gone through the BIOS settings, enabling PBO for more aggressive boosting, but that only causes the CPU to heat up without stopping the frequency drops. I’ve also tried tweaking Windows power management settings (setting both minimum and maximum processor states to 100%) and disabling any "green" or power-saving modes on the network card, but the problem persists. It feels as though the power plan is ignored the moment the two machines connect.

I'm running out of options, so I’m reaching out to see if anyone else has experienced something similar. Most of the troubleshooting advice I’ve found online focuses on gaming, but nothing relevant to my situation with Vienna Ensemble Pro.

Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance for your help!
