    That's a first!

I had the pleasure to talk with Lukas Csaszar, project coordinator of the Flow View for Synchron Prime Edition, and we had a blast!

I assume that the Flow is and will remain an additional option and that it will not eventually replace the other way of working. It's fine as an extra option, but of course it has its limitations. The fact that a software program helps making patch choices works fine. I notice that with Dorico, for example. But often I want to make some adjustments. In my opinion, this great flexibility is the power of the Synchron Player, which should not be lost in my opinion.

The flexibility of the synchron player also allows you to solve problems. An example: Dorico sets CC 7 to 100 by default. I thought that was a shame, because it means that a lot of the fine tuning of vsl is lost in order to get the best possible balance in the orchestra. My solution to this is to change CC 7 in all synchron Player instances to CC 17. This preserves the fine tuning of vsl.

Must be: I thought that was a shame, because it means that a lot of the fine tuning of VSL in order to get the best possible balance in the orchestra is lost.

  • Hi,

Sure, Flow View is an optional view / interface.

  • My congratulations and admiration to Lukas!

For most of my life, especially in my time as a design engineer, I've held that simplicity is an achievement. In what Lukas says in this video it's clear he understands this too.

Time and time again I've I had a nagging desire to get a simple model of my Synchron libraries into my head at least – if not into my DAW and my work practices with Synchron libraries. But alas, not much has come of my background urge for simplicity. Right now though, it's looking very much like Lukas, along with Andi, Erik and Bernd, have actually provided it!

The right man in the right place at the right time. That's a rare and precious set of circumstances! Lucky VSL.

One needs to be extraordinarily familiar and adept with one's advanced tools if the early, tentative processes of finding, shaping and crafting musical ideas are to come readily, intuitively and plentifully - as Lukas noted in this video. Or alternatively, a somewhat different set of tools and processes are needed in order to simplify these early stages of music making, leaving plenty of mental resources free for intuitive, creative ideas. At this point in time it's looking like Flow does fulfil the latter scheme. Time will tell of course. I for one am very optimistic about the role of this new addition designed by Lukas and the team.

As one customer of Synchron libraries who usually can't find the sort of time needed to become an adept and intuitive Synchron user, I'm looking forward to plenty of creative times ahead with Flow. Plus I'm now more optimistic about getting down to the business of subsequently working musical ideas and sketches into my Synchron libraries whenever I'm looking to build a refined mockup.

    Flow is a game changer.
