I just installed the SYNCHRON solo violin and cello, and made a quick test on a piano quartet piece Ive been hacking away at...

Just wonderful! Gone is that tight vibrato---a nice, expressive, strong tone. Really wonderful for a 1st violin, or soloist.

Well done. Can't wait to get into it on Dorico---but nice to know it plays well with the sychronized SE HP settings/keyswtiching on FINALE---HERE AT THE BITTER END.... SNIFF...

I agree very much about the violin. A big difference between the SYNCHRON-ized first solo violin and the SYNCHRON solo violin is, that you don't need to do so much to make long notes a "living" tone.
Just making the right choice for the sample: legato, long notes, staccato, spiccato, the different detaché notes (they are awesome, very useful, also in legato passages), the right start of the note (normal, soft or fast attack), and the right velocity does 90 % of the work. (And then I didn't use until now the lyrical patches, dynamic patches, the slur legato, so much to enjoy). The Timbre Adjust is also a very useful tool in some situations to envelop a specific tone and adjust a little the sound of a tone. Sometimes a long note with crossfade from no vibrato or low vibrato to strong vibrato and Marina Dimitrova is playing your composition in a beautiful way. This violin VSTi shows the craftsmanship of the team of VSL, with Marina as a part of it!
The different microphones are helping very much to get the right sound for the situation (in my last piece I use it as a solo violin with string orchestra, Duality Strings + Synchron harp until now). Also the SYNCHRON Duality strings are beautiful and very useful, not only with big loud sounding cinematic compositions, but also with little, subtile passages.
It's really amazing that this is possible! And Dorico is a very good tool to make use of this libraries!

  • I agree too

I purchased Synchron Solo Violin yesterday is in a class of its own in terms of sound quality and articulation. It's so wonderful I can't put it into words.

  • Yes I purchased the violin standard library yesterday and gave it a quick test and Dorico without knowing my way around the expression maps - but was still amazed - the best solo violin sound In a sample library I have heard in 20 years of working with music tech.

One thing does worry me. I purchased the whole MIR3D setup + VEPro7 + Stidio Orchestral Strings. These all seem to be designed to work together. Will I be able to get the solo violin to work well also in this combination?

    Many thanks.

  • Hi,

Great to hear that you like the Solo Violin.

@nomisllewdor: Our Synchron products are designed to work without MIR Pro (having exquisitely captured multiple mics, recorded in a huge space). So we suggest to work with the options you get with the product, reflected in the mixer presets.

The close mics will somehow work with MIR Pro, but they also contain quite some room-signal from Stage A (which is inevitable):

  • Thanks very much for the videos Paul. One other question I have. The number of trials on the new look website seem to be reduced. I was hoping to give the solo cello a try as well - and perhaps also the consordino solo strings but I only see a trial option for Synchron Prime currently.

    Many thanks anyway

  • Hi,

We're a bit cautious with demo licenses right now, simply to not overload our servers. But with our 14 day-return policy, you're always on the safe side.
