  • Fabios Theme different Venues for Surround project

Please find after the different MIR configuration used in Fabio's theme

It is helping to have a global view of 4 examples.

I could not compare the Teldex setups because I do not own this venue.

Looking at the Dolby and Binaural example, Fabio decide to put only a few instruments on the back speakers

In the DearVR and Dolby example all the instruments are also send in the top speaker

A solution is to play with Logic's pan

    Comments are welcome

  • A few words of explanation would be helpful. It's hard to understand what you wanted to achieve, how you achieved it and what you actually want to get commented on.

I want to achieve a better understanding of Dolby Atmos using Logic and MIR PRO 3D

Doing more analysis of the signal on each tracks I noticed that the signal is send to all the speakers

The solution is to change the pan like this : and you will get the sound only on the left speaker and not in the top speakers

You can see better with this screen copy

The App Violin are send to Logic on all speakers and Logic is set so the sound is only on the left speaker

  • Now looking at the 3D Object Panner :

This option is disable if you use the MIR PRO plug-in on that track

I don't understand why as the Pan / 3D Object Panner is done after MIR PRO has process the sound.

VSL can you fix that to enable it ?

  • Using individual positioned Dolby Objects makes no sense in combination with MIR 3D. It makes no sense to use the DAW's track panners in combination with MIR 3D either (... other than correcting built-in pannings of the source). As pointed already out many, many times before, MIR is supposed to care for the all panning- and positioning related aspects once it's used for a signal.

MIR's output must be encoded to Dolby Atmos as a whole. Typically this is achieved by sending the lower layer to a Dolby Bed (... e.g. the "7" in a 7.x.4 format), while there are four static Objects with zero width used as the top layer, in the position of the respective loudspeakers (.... the "4" in a 7.x.4 format). There are other options when using other formats (e.g. 7.x.2), but that's beyond the scope of this forum. Everything else will happen inside MIR 3D - positioning, reverberation, and the resulting assignment of signal components to the respective outputs.

    Regards,

    Regards,

    Hi Dietz,

I have demonstrate that MIR does not do the panning correctly as the instruments are send to all speakers.

The position given in MIR is not respected.

Fix this and we will not have to do it in Logic.

    Thanks

    Regards

  • I have set to zero width all instruments, the result is the same. The App Violin is send to all speakers.

The idea of Dolby Atmos is :

    • to separate instruments so they are not mixed and do not interfere with the others
    • to allow object movements

  • Please read up on how Ambisonics works. This is not simple power panning. Like in the real world (maybe with the exception of unechoic rooms or deserts) there will always be sound from all directions.

If you expect MIR to work differently, then please stop using it and sell the license.

We are not speaking of Ambisonic but Dolby Atmos. Read on Dolby site the definition.

Paul in a tutorial video said that Mir Pro 3D was compatible Dolby Atmos and to use DearVRmonitor

In MIR manual it is said the same.

    This is not the case

The solution is to Pan in Logic and to use stereo object to have 3D object panner until you implement real Dolby Atmos.
Today you cannot say that MIR is compatible 7.x and 9.x Dolby Atmos

Who will want to buy a license if it is not fully Dolby Atmos compatible !

Anyway I LIKE very much MIR PRO 3D 😀

Dietz, breath in...... breath out...... Repeat for as long as needed.

Cyril, you are the expert, and we others are all wrong. Award-winning scores, chart-breaking Atmos music productions mixed with MIR 3D - they all didn't happen. You know everything about immersive audio, everybody else has no idea. I finally got it, thanks.

  • Hello Dietz

    Cool !

I am not an expert I AM JUST A BEGINNER that is trying to figure out to use Dolby Atmos in his music.

I have analyse Fabio' theme, he put the violin on the left in MIR, the violin sound is send to all speakers ! WHY ?

Is it a Logic problem or a MIR feature ?

Give us another Logic project using Dolby Atmos that does the job

@Mary Willem, as an expert, can you help us ?

    Many thanks

    Cyril

This is a MIR feature. Ambisonics is not the same as simple power panning. Like in the real world, every noise in a hall will be distributed as a wave front, not as a laser-sharp vector, due to the nature of sound. This is what Ambisonics - the foundation of all positional and directional features if MIR - is all about.

... I explained this to you over and over again, the facts won't change.

  • When I speak to you about Dolby Atmos you reply "power planning"

So this is a confirmation that MIR is not Dolby Atmos compatible, but you would not say it.

When in the microphone setup you chose an immersive 7.x or 9.x it is very misleading .

What says Paul in the video is misleading too !

If Paul had not say that MIR is made for Dolby Atmos it will not had made confusion !

  • We can continue this fruitless discussion in circles for years, I think. Good grief. 🤪

But let me ask you a question: How do you encode any 3D reverb (other than MIR 3D) to Atmos?

    Hello Dietz

I agree with you the discussion is closed, now it is confirm that MIR Pro is not Dolby Atmos

I don't know, I am just a beginner that want to make his pieces in Dolby Atmos, so sell then on Apple Music.

    You are the specialist.😀

For the moment with the information I have, I will use MIR and Pan in Logic. The problem is you disable the 3D object planner if there is Mir on the mixer track

If you allow the use of the 3D object Planner, this could be a solution !

If anybody has another idea he is welcome.

    Thanks

    Kind regards

    Cyril

This is wrong. I've already explained it to you several times: As with all other 3D audio applications (including your beloved Logic Pro, BTW), the output of MIR 3D must be encoded to Dolby Atmos. Furthermore, Dolby's ‘Objects’ are not the Holy Grail when it comes to mixing music; in the vast majority of cases the Atmos ‘Beds’ are what is used in a music mix.

Yes, I am, but still you do neither read my constant flow of explanations, nor do you answer the questions I have posed to you to help you understand your fallacies.

As a consequence, from now on we will delete all your posts that manically repeat your false assumptions and conclusions. If nothing else helps, you will be banned from this forum again for some time.
