  • Alternative to iLok?

Hi I’m not as yet a user of VSL libraries but am very interested in the strings and a few of the pianos

What I’ve read about iLok isn’t encouraging and I’m wondering if there is an alternative

  • no

Ilok is much better than eLicenser, you do not need the dongle if you have Internet !
If you go to a place where there is no Internet, it take a few seconds to move you license to you dongle

  • No, no alternative. I find iLok to be great, and have never had any issues.

    Don't believe everything you read.

The only problem I've had with iLok since VSL moved to it was, in the new place my wifi is quite poor and when it dropped out I would have to recover the authorization, which couldn't happen except with it working. Finally I bought the physical key which does not appear to depend on the internet, in any case it just works.

Also when I had a bad time because of a stolen computer, which had iLok License Manager on it, would frequently close my iCloud session iLok was the single most consistently responsive support I've even seen. I had a number of things, all of them required the original vendor to approve in order to remove so as to recover; before this last year this meant contacting those myself. They did all of it for me and it always happened within 24 hrs.

    Yes, that is correct.

  • Witch dongle will work? Any special brand?

  • Only one brand of iLok for there dongle can be purchased from lots of locations

You have your pick of either USB-B or USB-C version of the iLok if I recall

Ok, just to be totally clear, a Steinberg Key can not be used?

  • Correct VSL moved away from the old elicenser dongles the same time Steinberg did

yes I said that correctly Steinberg dropped the elicenser almost 2 years ago now

Yes. I couldn't tell from a depiction but I asked the Sweetwater rep. I was out of USB-C slots in my hub. It's a quite small thing and super-lightweight.

  • Thanks!
