  • Managing Workflow and 3rd-Party Instrument Licenses

    Hello!

I'm looking forward to implementing a VEP set-up into my studio here soon. Looking for suggestions on how I can go about producing different styles of music and managing the terabytes of libraries between my main rig and the server unit.

If I am working on a film or video game, it is clear how VEP will fit into that work flow. External HD's or a NAS will be hooked up to my server computer (2013 MacPro) and run my Kontakt Libraries, Spitfire, EastWest, Etc.

While those libraries are connected to the networked computer, what do you recommend I do if I'm working on a pop track, and want to use a couple instruments from the libraries listed above, will I need to load up VEP each time? I can see this as a potential workflow hold up, where in some cases, I'll want to load up virtual instruments and not worry about a second computer rig while making a quick beat or quick writing of chords.

For example: Arturia instrument package, great for scoring and sweet for EDM. Do I install the Arturia library/licenses on my main rig or do I move that bundle to my server computer? Any suggestions on how to balance quick writing in Logic and having access to all the virtual instruments without using VEP would be awesome. Then when I'm on to something, "turning on/opening up" VEP and going from there, is this a workflow anyone does?

And if we only have 1 license for some of these libraries, is an 'iLok Cloud Session' the way to work around that?

Hopefully this makes sense, it's a bit all over the place. This is a workflow question that has been lingering..

    Thanks for anyone's time here..
