Trying to install VSL for Dorico
-
Hello Andi!
Thank you - I for sure have Dorico installed! I have installed many pieces of VSL software over the years, but this is the first time I've seen something like this - quite strange. Could it be something to do with Permissions?
Thank you!
Andy

Is the destination an internal disk or an external disk?
If external you might have to grant the installer access via the Mac settings.

Here is the Installer Log file:
Download "Installer Log 5-Jun-2024.txt"
Is it maybe looking for Synchron libraries that I don't actually have installed? I do have some libraries for the Synchron Player and I do have the Synchron Player installed. My main reason for installing this resource is to check out the Dorico Synchron Expression Maps as I am planning on buying the full Synchron Percussion I and Brass libraries.
Thank you,
Best wishes, Andy

My guess would be some behaviour change in some newer version of MacOS that you are running. They keep changing how the permissions system works, I know outside of VSL, Steinberg has had some issues with their installers for things like Halion sounds on newer MacOS versions where they had to send the user to the command line to change folder permissions.

Hi @mducharme! grainger2001 from the Dorico forum here... Thanks for the suggestion. I'm actually still on OS 12.6 Monterey which is almost a couple of years old, so I don't think that is it. We'll see if the Installer logs provide any clues...
Best wishes, Andy

Hi @andygrainger,
Issues like that usually mean that the Dorico App is not inside the default location (Applications folder) or the user does not have admin rights while running the installer.
Best,

Just to confirm, the Dorico Application IS in my Applications folder. I am the only user on my machine and have Permissions to Read & Write for these installers. I have VIPro, VEPro, MIR Pro, Synchron player ....I've been using VSL since 2001 and have installed many pieces of software and updates over the years, including updating the Vienna Assistant on my Laptop via an Installer Package, just today! This is the first time I have encountered this, and I can only assume that there is something wrong with the installer.
I can open the installer with 'The Unarchiver' on my Mac and I get a folder full of the individual packages - I have Permissions for all these individual packages. When I double click on one I get a message to say that the package is damaged.
I have today tried to install the same package on my Laptop which is a similar system to my main Mac Studio. Both are on Mac OS 12.6. Exactly the same thing happens. @Stamak is experiencing the same thing (see above) and he is on an even older OS (11.7) so maybe that is something that is causing a problem. I will consider upgrading my OS.
Best wishes, Andy

Hello Andy!
Thanks for the log file. Unfortunately it doesn't reveal the problem. Can you please generate another log file that shows all logs?
- Run the VSL for Dorico installer.
- Then in the top go to Window > Installer Log (or hit a cmd + L).
- A new window will open there.
- Change the view to Show All Logs.
- Start the installation in the installer app and Save the installer logs after getting any error.Best regards,
Andi

Hi Andi!
Thank you - I have attached another LOG file from today, but I think it is pretty much the same as the last one - I cannot get past the 'Destination Select' part of the installer (see screenshot in my first post), so there is really no extra information. I wonder if you can try installing this file onto a Mac with an older OS like OS11 or 12 if you have one? I'm on Monterey 12.6....Is it possible that it is an OS issue?
Thank you for your continuing efforts...This really is unusual.
Best, Andy

Hi Andi,
I wonder if you can simply email me the Dorico Expression Maps that this installer includes - I’m not sure what else is included in the package, but the Synchron Expression Maps are what I would like. I can manually put them into the correct folder on my Mac. Is that possible? Or could you post them here?
Thank you!
Andy

Hello Andy!
Unfortunately the full log file doesn't reveal more than the previous one. I have sent the Dorico expression maps to your registered e-mail address.
We will release a new installer that should get rid of the problem soon, regardless of what it was.
Best regards,
Andi
