It's quite tedious to evolve a single Synchron track in the DAW from static articulations and performance settings selected in the Synchron Player to dynamic ones with key switches and CC controllers.
Idea
A button/element in the Synchron Player that I can drag-drop into the DAW track where it results in a very short MIDI track that contains the player's current articulation key-switches, and if possible, its current performance CC controls.
Reproduce
- Start a new project in any DAW, for example Ableton Live 12
- Add a new MIDI track and load the Synchron Player
- Choose any instrument/section, for example the 1st Violins of the Strings Pro
- Choose some articulation with the mouse, for example Legato agile, Normal release, Normal attack
- Modify some performance sliders with the mouse, for example activate Timbre Adjust and pull it to 64
- Play in some notes with the MIDI controller, without touching any of the controller's sliders/dials/wheels
You now have a short MIDI section that uses the settings selected in steps 3+4. This setup is easy to create, and often my starting point, but takes tedious work to evolve from:
If I want to add a second MIDI section to the same track that uses very different articulation/performance settings, I need to enter the first MIDI section and manually "freeze" its current settings to "protect" them:
- Enter the first MIDI section in the DAW, then
- Insert new MIDI notes (muted) that represent the current articulation, for example D#1, C2, F7, A7
- Switch to the CC view and drag the sliders to their current levels in the Synchron Player, for example CC7 101, CC11 127, CC8 64, ...
This is a lot of work and makes it annoying to switch a track from static to dynamic settings.
Suggested change
- A new UI element (button, symbol, ...) in the Synchron Player
- I can click the symbol and drag it into the MIDI track in the DAW
- There, it expands into a short (for example 1/32 bar) MIDI section
- Inside, there are notes that reflect the articulation, for example D#1, C2, F7, A7
- If possible, the section also sets the CC levels, for example CC7 101, CC11 127, CC8 64, ...
Comparison
There are other plug-ins that use similar drag-and-drop functionality to import pre-defined sections. For example, Native Instruments' drum library Studio Drummer offers a similar button to drag the current drum pattern into the DAW.
