It's "Film Friday" again. So here is my version of John Powell’s “Together We Map the World” cue from the animated movie “How to Train your Dragon 2” (2014).

    Cubase project

Many of the cues from this film have extremely dense orchestration. Fortunately for my sanity, this cue is relatively light and transparent. However, it still has lots of colorful orchestral touches. For the first time in my experience, the score called for a slate marimba, so I finally got the chance to use the SYNCHRON-ized Elements Lithophone!!

The strings are a combination of Duality, Elite, Solo, Appassionata Sordino, and Chamber Sordino. The cello solo is the SYNCHRON-ized solo cello 2. The woodwind solos are SYNCHRON-ized Woodwinds. The 2 harps are Synchron Harp.

    Best wishes, Jay

  • Hello Jay,

this is so bautiful again. You are posting a lot of pieces here. How log does it take you to create such a piece? I am asking this because it was/is also one of the VSL-questionnaire questions. And I found it difficult to give an „average“ as some pieces are more difficult than others.

PLUS sometimes there are even Research Projects where I make some sounddesign which can take time too.

    How is this for you?

  • It also varies for me depending on length, density of orchestration, etc. But on average, about a week for a movie theme.
