How can I route bass Instruments to the LFE channel and remove other instruments from the LFE channel?

In most - if not all - cases you should avoid any kind of correlated audio content in the LFE channel. This channel is NOT meant for bass management, it is a dedicated channel for _additional_ low frequency effects (hence the name). Your mix should work without the LFE channel being played at all (which will usually be the case in a downmix anyway).

Routing to the LFE is therefore something that the DAW's panning device should take care of. Other typical scenarios use a dedicated AUX send to feed the LFE (which also enables the necessary steep low-pass filtering).
