  • Vienna Assistant (and these forums) are incredibly slow

    Hello,

I just bought a new PC running Windows11 Home, and am setting up my VST libraries across multiple VST vendors.

My internet speeds are anywhere between 100mbps - 500mbps (half gigabit). I've had huge success with downloading Native Instruments, Izotope, and Spitfire Audio libraries, with incredible speeds from these vendors, topping just above 500mbps, letting me download many gigabytes of libraries very rapidly.

Things were going smoothly until I got to the Vienna libraries. Yesterday I downloaded the Vienna Assistant software. It's only 98MB, but it took around ONE HOUR to download, with an approximate speed of 30kB/s. Then I downloaded Vienna Synchron Player, which gave similar download speeds.

Today I tried Celestial Orchestra, and it showed some improvement, but it's still only 700kB/s.

I disabled my Bitdefender anti-virus, but the download speeds are approximately the same compared to when it's enabled.

So I decided to come to these forums to see if others are reporting an issue, only to find these forums are also extremely slow to load. I keep getting an error on these forums "Looks like your connection to Vienna Symphonic Library Forum was lost, please wait while we try to reconnect."

I use Netlimiter to track my speeds, and it's showing the speeds for "forum.vsl.co.at" at approximately 30kB/s.

I just measured my download speed using Google speed test, and it reports just over 300Mbps download speed.

What's going on here? How do I resolve these issues? I am in Australia if that helps.

    Thanks.

  • Hi Tom!

This is of course not a great experience, but most probably the internet routes between your geographical location (Australia) and our servers in Austria that are to blame. Somewhere between your connection and our servers is a part that has kind of internet traffic jam, that will slow down speeds until the bottleneck is free again. So you might get better speeds at different times of day.

We would like to improve that in future, but unfortunately there is no quick fix.

    Best, Ben

  • Just to confirm I am in Australia and experience similar slow download speeds.

    Just a beginner
  • Thank you. At least I am not alone in my experience, it does sound like an internet routing issue.

Should I assume you don't use a content delivery network to help deliver your content? Such as Cloudflare for example.

That's correct, right now our websites and installers are streamed directly form our server in a Viennese server farm.
But I'm looking into the possibility of using a CDN in future.
