  • Synchron Woodwinds Lyrical Legato

    Hello!

The VSL for Dorico Installer has been updated for the new Synchron Woodwinds lyrical legato articulations. The installer can be downloaded with Vienna Assistant and is already online since December. So don't worry about the date.
The new articulations can be triggered by combining slurs with a "vib." playing technique in Dorico. The fast ("virtuosic") variant gets triggered automatically for short notes.

    Best regards,
    Andi

  • Great! I'm picking up Synchron Woodwinds finally in this current sale and am excited to use them in Dorico.

Any chance of World Winds (the full version, not the lite version in SY Prime) getting Dorico expression maps?

  • Hi Andi,

are the Lyrical Legatos also available in Dorico with the latest map? Do I need to manually create the "Lyrical technique?

    Thanks

    Henrik

  • Hi Henrik!

The following Synchron Woodwinds instruments have lyrical legato support in the expression maps:
Piccolo flute; Flute 1; Alto flute; Oboe 1-2; English horn; Clarinet Bb 1

You can trigger lyrical legato as described in the initial post of this thread.

    Andi

  • @andi You mean the Bassoon 1 and Bass Clarinet do not?

    Hi mducharme!

That's correct. Bass clarinet and bassoon lyrical legato don't vibrate. So it would not make sense to trigger them with legato+vibrato and I didn't want to add a custom playback and playing technique just for those two instruments. I think it would bring more confusion than it would help.

    Best regards,
    Andi

@andi I can understand and agree with that, but then the inconsistent/weird thing is that Clarinet Bb 1 lyrical legato doesn't vibrate either, so in that one particular case we are adding a "vib." marking for the lyrical legato even though it doesn't vibrate?

  • I was waiting for that question. 😉 The Clarinet in Bb uses the same expression map as the flute and the oboe. So it automatically uses the legato+vib switch to trigger lyrical legato too.

    Best,
    Andi
