  • Very interesting, this video was quite enlightening.

    I think you're absolutely right regarding the balance of the fundamental vs overtones as being the reason the Fazioli is clearer in this. It isn't only because of the melody in the bass, but also the thick jazz harmonies that you are using. I suspect if the harmonic context was more driven by triads rather than extended jazz chords, you wouldn't get the same density of overtones with the Steinway, and the result would be clearer.

    But the new thing that I learned from this is that I had thought that certain pianos were preferred for jazz playing just because they had a certain tone or sound - but now I realize that this ties in closely with the balance and thickness of overtones that are created by playing those thick jazz harmonies.
