  • Vienna Ensemble Pro 7 doesn't work.

I just installed the demo version of Ensemble Pro.
When I start Vienna Ensemble Pro Server and Vienna Ensemble Pro, I only see this in the taskbar:

    None of the windows appear.
This is what it looks like in the task manager:

When I close the program with the right mouse button over the icon in the taskbar, I get this error message:

For example, if I start VEP Pro 7 as an instrument in Cubase 12, it wants to connect to a server, but it doesn't find one and doesn't offer one.
Or maybe it doesn't work at all like it does with AudioGridder, where the server can also run locally on the same PC?

    Thank you, Franz

  • I can't believe I'm the only one for whom VEP 7 demo version doesn't work.
I have a Win11 computer with all updates and everything else works, i.e. the normal Vienna Ensemble and all of my plugins and everything else possible in Cubase 12. I have no other problems so far on this PC.

I've also tried installing the Win 3388 version, with the same result.
The only thing I can think of is that an update for Vienna Assistant ran before the installation and after the first installation, 2 new products were always displayed in Vienna Assistant, even though I had already installed VEP 7 twice.
Only restarting Vienna Assistant fixed this.
Of course, I have already tried uninstalling and reinstalling VEP, as well as deactivating and reactivating the license in iLok.

I don't have any other ideas anymore. Looks like I'll just have to accept that the demo version doesn't work and uninstall it again, I think.

  • P.S.: Maybe there is someone here with a Windows PC who could kindly confirm that the demo version of VEP 7 works for them? Thanks so much!

    Hi Franz,

There is no separate "Demo" build. With a demo license, you are installing exactly the same software build as everyone who purchased Vienna Ensemble Pro 7. We just released an (unrelated) VE Pro Update v3499. Please update via the Vienna Assistant app. Does that make a difference for you? If not, please get in touch with our support team - we are happy to take a look!

    Hi Andreas,
    thanks for the reply.
Unfortunately this version makes no difference.
I've now searched the AppData folder for "Ensemble" to rule out that there is any cache data there.
Strangely enough, I found a folder 'Vienna Ensemble Pro' in AppData\Roaming\VSL with a modification date of April 27, 2022.
There is also a logs folder with entries from the previous year.
I don't remember having VEP installed before.

Anyway, I uninstalled again, reinstalled, deactivated Windows Defender.
Then I guess that the reason why VEP doesn't start on my computer will always remain a mystery.

Takes already too much time and I think I can work without it.

    Thanks a lot, Franz

  • After I have ruled out everything possible on my side as a source of error and only the demo version of VEP 7 does not work, - otherwise there is not a single problem with any other audio software or VST plugin on this Window 11 PC with all current OS and Driver Updates - It is obvious that this demo version has a bug.

Even if it is the same version as the purchased version, the difference may be that there is an expiry date for the demo license and there may be a problem with the corresponding check.

If I can help you find this bug, please let me know.

    All the best, Franz
