Dropouts with VEP and Cubase 13: how to troubleshoot?

I'm struggling with dropouts. I've used VEP and Cubase successfully for large projects on multi-computer setups but something is bad now.

• Cubase 13 on a Mac M1 (Sonoma) connected with a dedicated 1000BaseT connection to
• Intel Mac (Sonoma) 64G RAM

If I set up a 2 input, 2 output connection at 256 sample buffer (2 buffers set in plugin) and then send a tone over and back and send midi over to trigger an instrument, this is what the audio coming back sounds like (attached). Intermittent dropouts of very short duration.

All else works fine. Processors and RAM are not being taxed at all. I can run standalone virtual instruments on the remote and send audio back over an AVB network (separate from the VEP net connection) and that works perfectly.

My question is, where do I start troubleshooting? How can I figure out whether this is an issue on the master side, the remote side, a Cubase issue or a VEP issue? One piece I do not understand at all is that when I render MIDI offline, there are no dropouts. So I only experience them in real time. The attached file says it's not a monitoring issue. It's in the audio coming back from VEP.

Yes, all Vienna software is up to date.

PS - I have also disabled ASIO Guard on all of the Vienna plugins, of course.

PPS - And tried swapping out the ethernet cable as well.

Hi! Do you have a Cubase 12 license? If so, could you please test the same setup with Cubase 12 - just to be sure the DAW can be ruled out?

Yes, I do. I will try to find time to test with Cubase 12.
