  • VSL sounds using Ableton

I use VSL as a plug in for Ableton for mainly classical style pieces.  I write these on Sibelius music notation software using Note Performer for the sounds and that works and sounds fine.

From there I create a midi copy, upload to Ableton and add VSL instruments (ie orchestral instruments) which I then attempt to produce.  As far as I understand Note Performer can’t plug in to Ableton; it is purely for Sibelius I think .

My problem is the instruments with VSL, especially string, sound as if they are attacking each note harshly and I would like to know if there is a way of creating a softer, smoother sounder.

    Thank you

    Hi Gellifor,

The dynamics of samples are mostly controlled via Velocity Crossfade (Vel XF) - or MIDI velocity depending on your preference. Here is a tutorial video for the Synchron Player:

  • Thank you.  I’ll follow this up.  Not sure I am as up to date with VSL software, so will look into this too.  Thanks again.
