  • New Intro - Comments?

    Hi! All..

I have been working on my second vsl piece. This is an intro for a comical piece I am doing for my application to a film music course.

Its very small...but I would rather get some comments now rather than later in the game.

You can find the piece here:

The Piece is called Audi VSL Com 2.

Please have a listen and do let me know what you think.

    Thanks.

    Regards,
    Tanuj.

  • Ah Excuse ... sorry listened to the worng one.

I listened to Anomaly ... hehe. So regard my previous comments for that song.

Just listened to the right one. That certainly does have the right amount of reverb. Nice piece. Lovely use of the Epic Horns. Only a few give aways, in technique that it's sampled library, only minor but the trained ear could tell.

Otherwise, very nice you should be very proud of this piece. Sounds quite polished.

  • Yeah, I made the same mistake and my first impression was "more 'verb".

But the Audi 2 piece is great. Just as an idea, it might be fun to really ramp up some tempo changes to add some extra comedy - sounds a bit 'Wallace & Gromit" which is nice.

I have to say I was also fascinated by "Are You Listening". There are some great ideas in there. Not meaning to be rude, but is the sound design all your own work or are there a lot of samples in there?

    Good stuff, thanks for posting.

Yeah...temp changes..I will keep that in mind...I have that for the next part...its going to change...get faster...this is only like first 30 seconds...but I know little about film composing..still learning.

When I talked about tempo changes I really mean ramping them up and down within that opening section, to make it almost like a drunken walk. It may not work, just an idea. And hey, dont' worry, we're all still learning, probably always will be. [[;)]]

Regarding the electro stuff; I really like that a lot, it's something I'm usually pretty lazy with and just end up looking for samples a lot of the time. I guess that's just down to having tight deadlines. I really must take some time off to write for myself every now and then, but then how do you turn down a good commission? [8-)]

  • Well, near the end you have the strings playing some chords to go out on. They sound like they've been played by a keyboard, It's difficult to tell you exactly how it should change as it's such a small thing. Basically I think you want to look at them and perhaps use Cre for the first chord and Dim for the second.

Or just look at the midi and try to time it a little more fluidly, the rest of the piece is fine and it's just these that, for my ears, step on the reality of it.

You don't have to start again [[:D]] Though youäve been told otherwise I would be tempted to put those last chords in a more rigid timing. There's no shame in having your orchestra perform the way you want them to.

More than fine as a final, my comments are purely for nit-picking reasons. Your music is currently peeing all over mine so honestly, do what your heart desires [[:D]]

  • sounds great!
I'm really curious as to what you're gonna do next with it. I'm expecting a furious adventure following the rest at the end of it...
so... get back to work! [[;)]]
