  • Live performance after a VSL rendition

    Hi all,

Here is a short excerpt from my String Quartet No. 3 - Apotheosis, commissioned by the Odin Quartet with a grant from the Ontario Arts Council, and premiered recently in Toronto.

Of note, is that I prepared a detailed VSL rendition of the work and gave it to the quartet along with the score. One of the violinists thanked me at the concert, stating that they couldn't believe how authentic the VSL instruments were and that the "mockup" gave the quartet a very strong sense of what I was looking for, which allowed them to have a strong foundation for their own interpretation. I was pleased to hear this as many performers still resist listening to (or commending) virtual performances.

Thanks, Dietz! Without the like feature, we'll keep our typing/texting skills up 😉

  • Hi Dave, I was for a longer time not so much on the forum. I heard your piece by chance, because I finished just a little piece and wanted to place it on the forum. Your piece is really beautiful, and a very good string quartet also. I think it is a pleasure for you to hear your music, played by such good musicians. I don't have the opportunity now to listen to the whole piece, because it is late now, but I will certainly do. Congratulations!

Thank you, MMKA.  I enjoyed working with the quartet and look forward to further projects with them.  I completely understand the scarcity of time we all must deal with, and that listening to a longer work is not always possible.  For me, I won't hesitate to watch endless Youtube videos on all sorts of mundane topics but feel the dread of committing a half hour to listening to a long form work.  The struggle is real 😊 lol

    Cheers!

    Dave
