  • Molzer organ photos vs. sound

    This really bugs me :) 

    How does the Molzer organ have a 32' principal stop, when the photos only show 8' long pipes?  There appears to be no way the required hardware could fit.

    Here's the explanation from Franz Eisenhut: 

    "We're taking advantage of an acoustic effect. The base tone with with the fifth above creates a "differential tone" which is an octave lower. In the case of the Molzer Organ, the pipes of the 16´ flute row are combined with the 10 2/3´ layer. "

    "Hier wird ein akustischer Effekt ausgenutzt. Der Grundton bildet mit der darüber liegenden Quinte einen Differenzton, der eine Oktave tiefer liegt. Im Fall der Molzer Orgel werden dabei die Pfeifen der 16' Flötenreihe mit der 10 2/3'- Lage kombiniert."
