  • MIR Pro 3D issue: question for Dietz

If I have “Auto-Guess MIR profile on patch changes” enabled in the MIR Pro 3D preferences in VE Pro, should that cause the MIR profile to auto-guess on MIDI activity for an existing patch if have “Enable Cells on MIDI Activity” enabled in VI Pro settings?

VSL support says that this is intended behavior and that one should just disable “Auto-Guess MIR profile on patch changes”

I maintain that MIDI activity should not auto-guess the MIR profile under any circumstances.  Enable Cells on MIDI activity is a feature to optimize memory not load MIR profiles.

This looks like a bug to me.  It is easily demonstrated by doing the following:

Create a VI Pro instrument in VE Pro with “Automatic adding of MIR Pro insert effect” enabled

Select a Venue in MIR Pro 3D

Load a VI Pro preset (this causes the auto-guess to load a MIR profile)

In VI Pro settings, turn on “Enable Cells on MIDDI Activity”

Disable samples: VE Pro>Vienna Instruments>Disable Samples

Change the MIR profile to something other than the auto-guessed profile (e.g., select Violins II instead of Violins I profile)

Do something to cause MIDI activity.  This causes the MIR profile to incorrectly change to the auto-guess profile.  This example is not a patch change, so it should not auto-guess the MIR profile.  It is merely a sample load of an existing patch.

  • Hi,

VSL support has consulted with me already on this issue. Although this may seem counterintuitive in some cases, this is actually the intended workflow. MIR has no way of "knowing" whether a patch was activated manually or semi-automatically, nor does it know about its intended use (e.g. VI1/Vi2). On these occasions, you will either have to disable the corresponding Preference or resort to MIR 3D's preset management, for reloading the settings after activating the cells on MIDI activity.

To be sure, I will also check back with VSL's developers, but I don't think they will see it any differently.

    Thanks for your understanding.

  • I understand what you are saying, but VE pro is telling MIR Pro to auto-guess the MIR profile.  And VE Pro knows whether there is a patch change or just MIDI activity, so why can't it just not tell MIR Pro to auto-guess the profile when there is just MIDI activity but no patch change.

  • Like I wrote above: I made VSL's developers aware of the issue already, but I can't promise a meaningful solution any time soon.
