Solo Strings 1 in Sibelius Ultimate issue
Hi All, Newbie to VI here. I live in the capital of Australia, so my reply will be a day late to most people's replies, I imagine. I'm running M1 Mac Mini on Ventura 13.1, with Sibelius Ultimate. I have managed to get Solo Strings 1 (SS1) partially working in Sibelius. My first test was in a string quartet. I can play the quartet in Sibelius using SS1, but all the instruments are being played by the first violin. I have the midi tracks set up in the Sibelius mixer correctly, but I can't figure out how to align the midi settings in the VI standalone application to the Sibelius ones, which I assume is the issue of all instruments sounds on the first violin. Any thoughts on what I'm doing wrong? Best, Rob

Hi Andi, Thanks, I think that one of those solutions might help. It looks as though you don't have to align the midi channels between Sibelius and the VI standalone app. I assumed you would have to because in the Synchron version you have too. Hopefully one of the solutions will resolve the issue. Best, Rob

Hi Andi,
I had some success. I can now get all the right instruments to sound on the right stave. But articulations are out. I have followed the VI setup information accurately. But, there was something I had to do to make the right instrument sound on the right stave. I had to set the preferred sounds in Sibelius. VI do not say to do this, but without doing this, I could not get the right instrument to sound on the right stave. See attached screenshot.
The issue now is articulations. VI is not recognising the Sibelius articulations, such as staccato and pizzicato. Plus, it is sounding slurs as portamento.
I've looked at the VI info and cannot found out how to resolve this issue. I've also written to VI, no reply, yet.
Any thoughts on how to fix articulation issues?
Best,
Rob

Hello Rob!
Thanks for the screenshots.
I strongly recommend using Vienna Ensemble when working with Sibelius. It will make everything easier, because you only need to activate one playback device and can open the Vienna Instrument players inside. You can install Vienna Ensemble with the Vienna Assistant.
Furthermore I can see that you didn't load the correct VI presets. Our Sibelius sound sets can only work correctly when you load the according VI presets under PRESET => Sibelius. The VI presets for Solo Strings I (full) can be found under Sibelius/Strings 3.8/Solo Strings/SS I - extended
It shouldn't be necessary to set up anything on the "Preferred Sounds" page in your case.
Best regards,
Andi

Hi Andi,
That worked a treat. It's basically all fine now. Sometimes the articulations do not exactly match what was happening in NotePerformer, but that's probably to be expected.
Just two more questions, in the attached screenshot, this dialogue box now opens up every time I start my Sibelius files I have saved with the VI instruments, I assume that this is normal? If I shut it down, of course it stop the instruments playing, is this normal?
If I make adjustments to an instrument, say I add reverb, can I simply save that adjusted patch and rename it?
Best, and thanks for your help.

Hi Rob!
The message on your screenshot appears when you try to close Vienna Ensemble Service although a plugin is still connected. I recommend first closing Sibelius and then closing Vienna Ensemble Service.
I'm not sure what you want to save exactly.
Patches cannot be changed and not be saved.
You can save Vienna Instruments Pro presets under PRESET/Save.
You can save Vienna Ensemble projects under File/Save Project As.
You can save Sibelius playback configurations in the Sibelius Playback Devices menu.Best regards,
Andi

Hi Andi,
Forget about my question. I realised I was not using the Sibelius patch. Sorry, all good.
