    Hello

Before to decide to move to Ilok you better wait.

I have an Ilok 1 containing EW Choir licences ; the green light is on but it is not recognised by the Ilok licenser STRANGE !!!😠

I have bought a new Ilok for the VSL licenses

Reporting my problem Ilok told me to fill a RMA and this RMA want to charge me 49,99 $, just to move my EW licences to my new Ilok !😠

I have eLicenser dongle bought at the same time that is still working !

I will keep you inform to my transaction with Ilok team

So I am waiting to move to Ilok

    Question to VSL :
If you have your Ilok licenses on the Cloud when are the licences checked ?

Could it occur overhead when you have plenty licenses as I have ?

If the Cloud is down are you p..... o. ðŸ˜¢

    Best

    Cyril

    Hi Cyril,

    To put things into perspective:

How old is your iLok 1? Did you get Zero Downtime for it?

    Regarding your questions:

    1) If you have your Ilok licenses on the Cloud when are the licences checked ?

A: Licenses are checked every now and then, you need a permanent internet connection.

    2) Could it occur overhead when you have plenty licenses as I have?

A: The number of licenses does not matter.
Tip: You can give it a try FOR FREE ðŸ˜Ž

I know you have been thinking and posting about this transition for more than half a year now. How many bad experiences did you find in our forum (mind you: from literally thousands of users who already switched to iLok)?

From our perspective, this switch went really well and we're more than happy with the performance and services of iLok.

    Best,
    Paul

    Hello Paul,

    1) How old is your iLok 1?

My Ilok 1 is as old as my first eLicenser

2 )Did you get Zero Downtime for it?

no, what for, it has been working fine for many years (my feeling is that Ilok has disable the Ilok 1 since a few month, hope I am wrong and they will move my licenses to my new Ilok for free)

    1) If you have your Ilok licenses on the Cloud when are the licences checked ?

A: Licenses are checked every now and then, you need a permanent internet connection.

I have understand that you need a permanent internet connexion.

If the Ilok is not as reliable as the eLicenser there are 2 solution :

    • a) Stay with eLicenser
    • b) Use le Cloud solution

Will you be kind enough to give more detail i.e. If you check the licenses when you hit Play or when you Play the piece it is going to put overhead at the worse times and we will comme back to problems we had before !!!!!😠

If you check the licenses when you load or save a song the overhead does not have an importance, we can wait a few seconds more ðŸ˜Š

Today I am very happy with the eLicenser, it is very reliable ; one of mine is still working after having a go in the washing machine for a long white wash. I also been bend by the fall of my MacBook Pro on the eLicenser on the floor from my high bed.

VSL is working very well with large orchestrations on my 64 GB MacBook Pro and my 4 TB SSD, very little CPU load (I use VI) ðŸ˜Š

    2) Could it occur overhead when you have plenty licenses as I have?

A: The number of licenses does not matter.

Tip: You can give it a try FOR FREE ðŸ˜Ž

I have more than 40 licenses to check so it is taking time, specially when you have a poor Internet connexion (At home I have the fibber optic, but the I go on holidays in hotels the WIFI is most of the time very slow)

I have 1.5 TB of VSL samples to re-download, it is not a simple task and I have to buy an External SSD as fast as the one that is in my Mac Book Pro (2600 MB/s) because I have only 941 GB free on my Internal SSD (I also have 500 GB of other libs)

I just bought a new SSD solution but it is only 500 MB/s ðŸ˜¢  (I will be very happy if you can give me advise for a fast SSD)

I have been following this subject.

I don't know how many large user you have like me ; if they could chime to this conversation it will be great.

Now I have a very stabilised configuration and I am VERY HAPPY WITH VSL so I am very scared to go for problems !

Do not forget I have been a develloper in many language and also a Telecom specialist on huge computers : IBM, DEC, Burrough, on a network of 200 x Wang, Cash Registers, IBM PCs and Unix computers) in an organisation handling 2500 users, and this for years.

I spend a lot of time and money to have a reliable orchestral solution.

    Thanks for you time

    Best

    Hello Paul

A shop found me an external SSD but it is very expensive, it is the

LaCie Rugged Pro Thunderbolt 3 SSD 2 To

Can you answer to my questions before I buy it

I am going to the shop on Monday or Tuesday to check the speed.

If I decide to stay with the eLicenser with the libs I have already bought and to go with the Ilok with the new libs what it is going to happened ? can it be a solution ?

    Kind regards

    Cyril

P.S. I had an answer from Ilok ; they want me to pay ! ðŸ˜

    Hello Cyril,

There are many SSD tests out there, what's important for streaming our samples is the random read speed of small files for one thread. We cannot test all available options on the quickly-changing market, but there are many tests and comparisons out there.

You can mix eLicenser and iLok for different "Player groups", so you could stick to eLicenser with all VI Collections and switch to iLok with all collections that work with the Synchron Player.

You can NOT mix eLicenser and iLok libraries that use the same player. It's either-or.

This is all explained in out extensive iLok videos and FAQs.

    Paul

    Hello Paul

    Many thanks for your reply

You gave me a good suggestion having my VI lib with eLicenser an the Synchron libs with Ilok.

It is avoiding me to buy the extra SSD

Not putting all the eggs in the same basket is better.

    GOOD NEW

EastWest allow me to recover my licences that where on the Faulty Ilok 1 for free

    Best regards

    Cyril
