  • Vienna Imperial

    Hi Paul,

I am looking for a dry recorded piano. Concerning instrument and recording quality the Vienna Imperial seems to be the best in the market. Nevertheless I decided, not to buy it at the moment, because my understanding is, that the tuning / temperament cannot be changed. I wonder why? VSL moved many VI libraries to the Synchonized Series. Are there plans, to move the Vienna Imperial to the Synchron Piano Player too, so retuning becomes possible?

    Best regards

  • Hi vocals,

No such plans - but we do offer the Synchron Bösendorfer Imperial (recorded in Stage A) & Synchron Bösendorfer VC280 (recorded in Stage B).

    Best regards,
    Andreas

  • Hi Andreas,

Thank you very much for your response and your advice. I have tested the Synchron Bösendorfer for 30 days now. It is a great Piano and I also have tested the retuning in the Synchron Piano Player. That works very well. For classical music it is first choice beside the Blüthner 1895.

But at the moment I am looking for a dry recorded piano for pop production. During the test of the Synchron Bösendorfer, I have tried using a dereverberation plugin to reduce the reverb on all 3 close mics. But the dereverberation has a negative impact on the general sound and it is not able to remove the early reflections, that give the piano too much shape for a pop production in my humble opionion (the tube mic beeing the best of the three close mics). But vice versa the dry recorded Vienna Imperial works perfect here. Only a simple shelf filter is required to get the perfect pop sound in combination with MIR 3D. I have tested it with the Special Edition lite version and a demo mp3 from your website.

But retuning is necessary. There are some older threads, where this issue was discussed and at that time it was explained by VSL, that the underlying Vienna Imperial player engine is not able to perform pitch shifting. I appreciate very much, that VSL has listened to their cutomers and changed that with the Synchron Pianos.

So I can only hope, that VSL will also "synchronize" the Vienna Imperial some day in the future.

    Best regards
