  • MIR 3D and Role Natural Volume

    Hi Dietz,

I'm getting to grips with the new MIR 3D.  The old 'Natural Volume' setting seems to be as it was in the old MIR when I select my instrument in the ASSIGNMENT section...For example, my Orchestral Violins in the Grosser Saal come out at -13.5 dB which is what I used to have with the old MIR + MIRx.  Now if I apply the Orchestral Violins ROLE to that instrument, I get all the nice settings that you have made - Thank you!, but the volume suddenly jumps to -6 dB.  I know I can uncheck the volume at the bottom before applying the role, but it says these settings are based on the old MIRx settings...Why does the ROLE not retain the old 'Natural Volume' setting?  My whole template is balanced using the old natural volume, but the ROLES don't seem to respect those old 'Natural Volume' settings.  I'm just wondering why that is?  Everything seems to come out at -6dB...Even if I apply a piccolo trumpet ROLE to my violins for example?

    Thank you!  Andy

  • Sorry for the confusion. The implementation Natural Volume is indeed not completely flawless. I make VSL's developers aware of the fact.

    Thanks for your patience!

  • Hi Dietz,

Thank you for your reply.  This would seem to be a fundamental aspect of using 'Roles' and I'm honestly a little surprised that the software was released like this, considering that the balance is such an important aspect of anyone's template . Fortunately there is a work around that I can use until this is fixed.

    Best, Andy

  • I understand your frustration, but truth to be told: Natural Volume was only meant as a starting point for Vienna Instruments exclusively, so I wouldn't it consider a fundamental feature of MIR 3D's open "Roles" concept  - especially considering that gain values can be set and saved by the user now.

... but as I wrote above: I've already asked VSL's software engineers to take care for the issue.

    Thanks for your patience!

  • Hi Dietz,

No problem - Thank you!  Your original MIRx settings have been the mainstay of my template for years and I appreciate all the hard work that you put in to create them and that you continue to do.

    Best, Andy
