  • Loud blasts of noise from VE Pro hosting Synchron player

I’m getting loud blasts of noise coming from my Synchron player instruments.  I can make it happen 100% of the time with the piccolo: every time I play one of the top two notes I get the noise blast.  Here’s a video showing it happening:

     https://drive.google.com/file/d/1BwXxEVjtNBOqV_4n9Ip_w2Lb3vEkkekl/view?usp=sharing

As shown in the video, I use the mouse to play A7 four times and it plays back correctly.  Then when I play B7 I get a full-volume burst of noise.

In addition to this 100% repeatable example, I get random occurrences as well.  Those other occurrences happen on other instruments but I’m not certain which because I’m not looking at the mixer when the noise blast occurs.

The project I’m using was running fine in Cubase 11 and I started having the problem when I upgraded to Cubase 12.  I also upgraded Windows from 10 to 11 at the same time.  When I re-installed all the VSL software I used the latest versions, presumably newer than what I was running in my previous setup.  So there are a number of changes that occurred between when it was working and now.  Regardless, though, it clearly is not working for me in the versions of the software I am currently running.  I am running the instruments in the VE Pro server on the same machine as Cubase.

If anyone has any ideas on how to fix this problem, please let me know.  My hearing will thank you.

    Thanks in advance,

    Hi Richard,

Sounds terrible, sorry for the troubles!

Please send your song to us, we will do our best to reproduce this on our systems.

Use the new feature in your Vienna Assistant (Create Support File), so that we'll have all information available.

    Best,
    Paul

OK - I sent a follow-up to my original email to support that includes the Vienna Assistant output as well as the VE Pro server config that's causing the issue.

For anyone else reading this, I determined the issue is in VE Pro / Synchron player.  I re-installed Cubase 11 and loaded up the previous template in the new version of VE Pro / Synchron player and the problem is the same.  So it appears there's some incompatibility between my template and the newer versions of the VSL software.  Also, the noise blast is made worse by my reverb.  The Synchron player is producing a full-volume pop that is not so bad but when that goes through the reverb I get the extremely loud white noise (which, unfortunately, is what the reverb is supposed to do for such an input...).  Also, the pops happen for any articulation when played on B7 or higher. So it's linked to the notes, note the artics.

And finally, the problem does not occur if I start with a blank VE Pro server instance and re-load the piccolo.  So there's something about my previous server file that the new version of VE Pro does not like.  Given that it took me several days to put that together I hope I don't have to completely recreate it...

    Thanks

  • Hopefully VSL gets to the bottom of it.  I have had a similar issue in the past...both with and without VSL products involved.  The one time that VePro was involved I notice that it seemed to be the case in some way related to a new project with a channel setup for MirPro room sound...before MirPro was completely setup with a room, etc.  I don't remember the details exactly now..

In any case, in the meantime, I reccomend you locate a copy of the ice9 plugin (free), or if you can't find that then Nugen has SigMod, which will help to at least protect your ears from the blast by cutting out the audio whenever it happens.

  • Hi

I have the same problem. It's actually terrible. I'm afraid for my ears and speakers now. It happens with Synchron Brass.

Have you or VSL crew found a solution for it?

I'm on Cubase 13 Pro, OSX 12.5, external SSD drive

    Cheers!

  • Please double check that you are running the latest version of VEP and Synchron Player.

In case it is reproduceable add a brickwall limiter to your DAW's output and turn it down quite a bit, reproduce the issue, and as soon as it happens check the meters in VEP and Synchron Player to identify which instance is causing the issue, and what channel within this instance.
If it is an FX channel in Synchron Player try disabling the plugins in this channel until the meter is going down, if it is a mic channel open the FX tab and disable the inline FX plugins to figure out wich one causes this issue.

After that please send a report to support@vsl.co.at and we will make sure to fix it as soon as possible.
