  • New Daw/slave build Cpu settings/instances advice

Hi folks. I have a new slave build built for an orchestral template in the latest VEPRO 7 Ilok version. Just wanted some advice on cpu settings and number of instances/threads I should have. My specs are MSI Z690 DDR4 PRO A Motherboard Intel I7 12700k 12th gen - 12 threads 128GB Teamgroup T-Create Expert DDR4 OS/Apps - Samsung 980 Pro Gen4 nvme 1tb Samples - Samsung 970 EVO Plus Gen3 2tb nvme My old machine was a Xeon chip on a gigabyte server board running Spitfire BBCSO with 1 thread assigned to 1 instance per instrument group. This was setup as Fl,1 Fl,2 and picc Ob 1 and Ob 2, Eng Horn and so on I had it all connected to a MacBook Pro 2017 with. UAD Apollo Twin X running at 48khz decoupled To take the stress of Dorico 4.2 and it was all up about 40-42GB Ram when playing back. I loaded the same server project with the new build and got lots of pops and clicks, voice stealing etc. I haven’t done much testing with Kontakt or East West or Synchron Libraries yet but I’m looking for some basic advice on the best way to set it up. I’ve been pretty disappointed with the performance so far from the spitfire player and I don’t know if there’s an issue with running my memory at the correct speeds. I also intended to do everything on the one machine and have tried two other interfaces UAD volt 476 and also Roland rubix24. Both interfaces did the same thing with glitches, missing voices in large chords etc. As I’ve had a complete nightmare with Thunderbolt and my UAD Apollo Twin X on Windows (tried both 10 and 11) I have to admit defeat and run the new machine as a slave. The other thing I don’t know how to do would be able to migrate the channel sets from each of my instances with 1 thread assigned and maybe assign more threads to the 4 sections Str/Brs/WW/Perc to spread the load more evenly. Any advice on how to go about it would be great. Haven’t upgraded for 6 years so not sure how to optimize these fast components properly. Cheers Simon.
