  • Harp don't play back correctly

    Hi

I have only harp in the score. I have imported the house style "Vienna Symphonic Library". In Playback configuration I have loaded the device Vienna Ensemble Pro (AU), and selected the Sound set VE Special Edition. In Manual sound set I have one channel loaded with Harp at channel 1.

In Vienna Ensemble Pro I have loaded one instrument - Harp. I use the preset under "- Sibelius - Special Edition 6.0 - SE vol. 1 - 05 Harp - 41S Harp".

In the beginning of the score I have placed a piano expression, and in the two first bars an hairpin (cresc.). These two symbols won't play back. I have check the box at "Vel.XF".

But if I use the plug-in "Add continuous Control Change", set the volume 1 to 60 and volume 2 to 127, chose the controller C11, the velocity play back correctly.

In the mixer both staves (channel) is set to "Auto" and ch. 1.

How can I solve this problem?

PS. In the "Add or remove instruments" I find the instrument harp under "Pitched Percussion" and "Strings". I have tried both with same result. Which one is right to use?

    I use
    Sibelius 2022.5 build 1074
    Vienna Ensemble Pro 7.0.1120 (Nov 23 2021)
    Vienna Instrument Pro 2.5.18664

  • Hi Ketil!

Please uncheck "VelXF" for the harp. Then dynamic marks should work as expected.

Both harps that you have found in the Sibelius "Add or Remove Instruments" menu have the same SoundID and work equally.

    Best regards,
    Andi

  • Thank you. That works good.

Shall "VelXF" be unchecked for another instrument also to tigger playback Velocity correct?

  • Hi Ketil!

The VI presets for Sibelius are prepared the way that they should be used. If VelXF is turned on, I would keep it turned on. If it is turned off, I would keep it turned off.

As a rule of thumb I would keep VelXF for instruments that can change the dynamics after the initial attack turned on. For instruments that can't change the dynamics after the attack I would keep VelXF turned off.

  • Thank you, And. Thats a good rule.

Some strange things happens to day (Harp).
I have a score with Harp, Soprano Choir, Alto Choir, Tenor Choir, Bass Choir, Viola I, Viola II, Cello I, Cello II and Doble Bass. Everything play back correctly, but the strange thing with Harp is the slider for VelX stand constant on 100, but it plays the dynamics in the score. None of the slider moves according to Expressions or Harpins in the harp staff? Yesterday, when I played the piece, the VelX slider moved accordingly the expressions in the Harp.

    Why does this happens?

I have reloaded the instrument I VE Ensemble. reloaded the instrument in Sibelius also.

    Regards
    Ketil

  • Hello Ketil!

If I remember correctly, the harp cells have VelXF decativated individually and VelXF will only have an effect on the bisbigliando cell.
