Hey all,
I read the forum posts and even posted in one the threads but I had to come here and start a new thread because it appears as if the problem is much larger than expected. First off... details
MacPro (Trash Can), 128gb RAM, 2.7ghz, 12-Core, separate 2TB SSD Drive solely for my VSL Libraries, Logic Pro (latest version), all VSL products are up to date.
Here goes... I was working on a fairly good sized project but not overly blown out (about 79 tracks but they were broken up between staccato, legato and pizz samples). I was only using three instruments from VSL (Synchron Strings Pro, Synchron Harp and Oboe d'Amore) and the rest of the samples were from Spitfire, EastWest and Cinesamples. Once I had the piece in place and started to really fine tune I notice the Harp would start to sound like a late 1980s video game (plink, plunk, plink plunk). Then it would happen with the strings or oboe. Each time, Logic would start to freeze and then crash. After that I couldn't restart Logic because something was severely wrong here. So, I uninstalled and reinstalled Synchron Player and Harp Player and it was still the same.
I thought it was a SSD issue so I called OWC computing, got with their tech support and after about 3 hours of testing we realized nothing was wrong. This entire process cost me a whole 2 days of crashes, restarts, testing and so on. Lastly, I just decided to get rid of the VSL instruments in my piece and.. VOILA!!!!! The piece worked and played smoothly without issues. That sucks because the Oboe was my lead in section A of the piece. I have not been able to use or, frankly, want to use the VSL products in my pieces ( I am working on a piece for an ad agency right now and would LOVE some of the strings pro samples but I do not dare add it for fear of crashing and locking up my system. I did more restarts and reboots and pulling out my hair on Friday than I have all year. I REALLY HOPE THIS GETS FIXED SOON.
Frustrated,
Seth
