  • Synchron player and mic presets

Forgive me if this is common knowledge or has been answered somewhere but I couldn't find anything.

I have Mir24 and have wondered why when I select a synchron player and load an instrument preset the mic preset doesn't get automatically applied as it did with VI instruments?

  • MIR Pro and Synchron Instruments aren't made for each other. :-)

The latter have been recorded "in situ" (i.e. in the actual position of the instrument(s) in Synchron Stage Vienna), with lots of the ambience and even reverb "burnt in". They are meant to be used in the same way they have been recorded in, all in the same hall.

MIR Pro on the other hand needs quite dry (at least unreverberated) sources, ideally centered, without any bias towards the left or right side. That's the only way to put this source in one of its Venues in a meaningful way, without ending up with a muddy mess of rooms, pannings and reverbs. :-)

... there are mixer presets in Synchron Instruments that try to provide that kind of sound despite their different recording paradigm, but it's not their main goal.

    HTH,

  • Ok.  I never picked up on that before.  That explains quite a bit actually.  Thank you for the explanation.

  • You're welcome! I know that my answer might not have been exactly what you were hoping for .... Thanks for using MIR Pro in any case! :-)

  • No that's quite alright.  I just wondered why it wasn't working easily and the sound was strange.  Your answer was very helpful.

I guess I do have another question.  Can I use MirX mode then?  I see two venues but nothing else appears to be available.

    Steve

  • MIRx was a product specifically developed for Vienna Instruments, with pre-defined settings derived from six MIR Pro Venues. "MIRx Mode" was added to MIR Pro to supply users with the same settings and the added benefit that they could be altered (unlike in MIRx itself).

Therefore you can use MIRx Mode only with Vienna Instruments, and of course only for the Venues you own licenses for. A small exception is the handful of "General Purpose Settings" I created for MIRx - they are quite unspecific and could be used with any input source.

... or did I misunderstand the question?

    Hello Dietz,

Do you think the "default" setting in the MIX view of Synchron player is appropriate for MIR ?

    Best regards.

    Eric

  • Hi Eric,

I'm only talking from experience (not expertise), take everything that follows with a grain of salt.

You can of course use Synchron instruments with MIR Pro, and the best way to go about it is to work with the dry samples and with as few mic feeds as possible. The closest you can get to a dry mono source the better for MIR Pro to work its magic.

    I hope this helps.

    All the best, António

  • Hi António,

Thanks for your answer. Your experience share is helping.

Technically, I know it is possible to use Synchron Instruments with MIR.

I would like to avoid spending time trying to get optimal sound results with elements which are not fully compatible in terms of sound treatment.

This is why I asked the question : By design, to get the best sound, is it recommended to use them both together ?

If MIR has been optimized to use VI libraries, let's say it...

    Best regards.

    Eric
