  • How to set Finale's Human playback to work properly with dynamics/volume?

    Hi!

Since the transformation of license to iLok we've got three categories of presets in Synchronized Special Editions to choose from and in Finale, we've got four ways to deal with dynamics/volume. Does anyone has the clue of which combination of the VSL's presets and Finale's HumanPlayback's playback of dynamics/volume works best together? Which of the presets in VSL works best with Finale?
I've been experimenting back and forth, trying to get the best results of changing the controls of VSL, f.i. making the volume (CC7) also control the velocity crossfade together with the expression, and it works to some extent, Burt not always. So, if anyone has any suggestions, please comment.

    All the best,

    Anders

  • Hello Anders!

With Finale and the SYNCHRON-ized Special Editions I would use the VelXF sus presets and make Finale control CC1 and Velocity for dynamics. This means that velocity will control the dynamics of short notes and VelXF (CC1) will control the dynamics of long notes. I wouldn't control CC7.

    Best regards,
    Andi

  • For quite a while I've used cc1 in Finale to control Vel XF.  When an instrument is added it automatically sets the Y axis to cc1, which necessitates changing it to a different midi controller (I use cc16).  Is there any way in Vienna Ensemble to set the Y axis to default to a different controller?

A second question to clear some confusion on my part: when I upgraded to iLok I now have both Vienna Instruments and Vienna Ensemble in Finale (previously "Instruments" was 32 bit, I believe). The "Instruments" is version is 2.6.99 and the "Ensemble" is version 7.1.97.   When I open "Ensemble" I need to insert the "Instruments" as a VST to get the same functionality that I used to.  Previously I could just select "insert instrument;" now I have to select VST and then choose one of the options.

  • Hello Clayking!

In the Vienna Instruments the controllers for X-Axis and Y-Axis are stored in the matrices and presets. It's not possible to override these settings with other default settings.

With Finale and Vienna Instruments I personally would rather use CC11 for dynamic control and set up the presets in a way that CC11 controls VelXF and not Expression (to avoid double dynamics).

In Vienna Ensemble 7 (iLok) you can add the Vienna Instruments Pro player by clicking the "Insert Plugin" button in the lower left corner. Then select Vienna Instruments Pro.

    Best regards,
    Andi
