  • Synchron pianos, standard or full, that is the question

    Hello.

I am a user of synchron pianos, specifically the Steinway and the Yamaha cfx. I have to say that I am impressing with the sound, the realism and the feel when playing it. I think it's the best piano vst I've bought in a long time. Now, I have the standard versions and I wonder if it is worth spending the money on the full version that has all the microphones. I also doubt because of the considerable space it occupies on the hard drive. So I would need real user testimonials to tell me if it is worth the expense or not.

    Thank you very much.

  • Well, if what you're doing with the piano is totally exposed, solo piano you might hear the back to front and the high and high surround et al reliably but I wouldn't bet the ranch on A/Bing it blindly.
That said the ribbon mic is very attractive.

  • If the piano has to be a solo, recorded from close, I feel the couple of tube mics under the lid, only available in the Full edition, is really necessary. Even if you want an audience perspective, they may be very useful to add body and warmth to the sound.

Mixed with the orchestra, and not (or just marginally) exposed, I feel that even the Steinway Light can work great.

For the upright piano recorded in Stage B, I feel the Standard version is all I need.

  • Thank you, I finally bought the full version and it's worth it, above all and as several colleagues comment, in case of exhibiting the piano alone or with few instruments. The sound becomes more full-bodied and there are more sound possibilities that improve the sound considerably. However, the standard version sounds just as excellent. Greetings and thanks.
