I've used VSL Synchron Strings Pro, VI winds and brass. The solo violin is outside the VSL universe. This is a rough mix...still lots of work to do. This is the third in a series of concerti, the other two being "The Soul Awakens" clarinet concerto and "From the Ashes" cello concerto. You put a lot of effort into making full use of the violin and its possibilities (articulations) Bravo. Yes am also curious about the final result.

Regarding the mix: it would be nice if the orchestra and the violin would play in the "same room" at the end. At the moment that is not the case at all.

    Tip as an idea...
Use the preset "Default (unprocessed)" for the violin. This makes it sound dry and very close. Install an (algo) reverb in the output channel where orchestra and violin come together. Add tail with it until you like the violin sound. The violin will always sound more soloistic (closer) than the orchestra. Nevertheless, orchestra and violin play in the same space.... just like the Fujara Flute here.

    All the best

  • Hi Beat,

Thanks for listening and for your valuable suggestions.  My wife, Rebecca stated: "wow, he's good!" when she read your comment, figuring you had sharp ears.  Then she noticed that I had already alluded to the fact that the solo violin is outside the VSL universe and she goes, "oh, well, doesn't that give it away that the violin sounds out of place." LOL!  In all seriousness, I know you have sharp ears and would have made that observation regardless.

In fact, not only is the solo violin sounding like it's in a different space, so too are the Synchron Strings.  For now, we have adjusted the solo violin's own built in reverb to match as close as we could to the Mir hall (without using any Miracle), because due to a glitch in the VE Pro 7 software, any non-VSL instrument that we click on in Mir, makes the whole stage interface disappear!  There is a thread that documents this on the forum, and for which I have yet to contact VSL support to address, due to them being swamped with the transition to I-Lok.  Needless to say, when we finish everything else, we'll likely do what you've suggested as that has been our approach with past works prior to this VE Pro glitch.

Thanks also for sharing your own example with the Fujara Flute (nice!)  Your work helping others on this forum is always appreciated, and I count myself among them :)

    Cheers!

    Dave
