  • Resolved: Problem with Vienna Assistant: Moving Libraries after installation

04/29/2022-this problem has been resolved with software updates from VSL. thanks

    Good Morning VSL community;

I have now successfully installed all of my VS Libraries after the switch to iLok!

    Party Time!🎉

I took the plunge and deleted all of the old eLicenser files, not sure why I was hesitant to, but it's done. That left me with a lot of room on that drive which is much faster than where the libraries are currently installed.

Problem arises when I ask Vienna Assistant to move the Libraries. Twice now Vienna Assistant has simply stopped processing about 1/3 of the way through the transfer of a particular library, the integrity of the files is then gone; they have to be downloaded and installed again. I was originally not keeping the newly downloaded files after they were successfully installed. I'm assuming that with the new iLok files any maneuvering done to the libraries has to be accomplished through Vienna Assistant, the old Directory Manager is now redundant.

Question to everyone: is anyone else experiencing problems in asking Vienna Assistant to move files? I'm hesitant to try moving files if they're simply going to be chewed up by Vienna Assistant.

    Thanks

    Ray

  • Hi Ray,

    Thanks for posting!

Which library is causing those troubles, and which OS are you working on?

I assume that you have already updated to Vienna Assistant 1.0.133 (restart to start the auto-update).

  • Thanks,

Checking this out right now. Seems to be a specific problem with the VI Dimension Strings.

I'll keep you in the loop!

  • Hi,

Turns out I was just not patient enough... Moving the VI Dimension Strings went just fine, but the process was not updating quickly (as it is showing the progress step by step, file by file).

Could it be that patience is also a key element for your situation?

    Best,
    Paul

  • I'm encountering a similar situation.  All of my libraries were successfully converted to iLok a few weeks ago.  However, I am trying to move them all to another drive retaining the same path but with a different drive letter.  What I have found is that all of the libraries purchased after the iLok migration have been relocated successfully.  However, for all of the libraries that were purchased before the migration, Vienna Assistant does not retain the new location when I attempt to relocate them.  It still indicates the old location.

In Vienna Assistant, I am using the view that shows libraries that need to be repaired.  I specify the new location and it appears to have worked showing the new location.  Then when I refresh the view, it has reverted to pointing to the old location.  Again, this seems isolated to those libraries that were purchased before the iLok migration.  (And I have used some of them successfully after that migration.)

And even more strange is that these libraries showing as needing "repair" appear and work in the Syncrhon Player.

I'm using Vienna Assistant 1.0.136 on Win 11 Pro.  I've attached a partial screen shot of what I'm seeing.  Woodwinds were purchased before iLok but migrated successfully.  The percussion was purchased a few days ago.  Both were moved to their new locations today.

  • I appears my issue has been resolved by re-installing Vienna Assistant.  I re-installed it on top of the current installation (same version) and it allowed me to specify (and retain) the new location of the libraries.

I hope this is helpful for anyone encountering this situation.
