  • Video Request: Synchron Mixing Masterclasses by Bernd Mazagg

Does anyone know the sound of orchestral instruments played and recorded in Synchron Stage A better than Synchron Stage's Technical Director and Chief Recording Engineer, Bernd Mazagg? I think not.

Is anyone more familiar and adept than Bernd with the technical and acoustic context, production and positive use of Synchron Library mix presets? I think not.

Is anyone more aware than Bernd of the technical intricacies of "hybrid" soundtrack production, in which parts of the composer's original mockup made with Synchron libraries are mixed in with live recordings by the Synchron Orchestra in Stage A? I think not.

Therefore I implore VSL to consider producing one or more Synchron library mixing masterclass videos, in which Bernd is either interviewed or presents on his own. Surely no one is better qualified - in every sense.

I have a feeling that in their characteristic politeness and modesty, VSL have thus far assumed that most if not all Sychron library users will find it fairly easy and straightforward to produce competent, attractive, top-notch mixes of their compositions. But in reality, I think perhaps only a minority of these users can do so, whilst the great majority of us could benefit hugely from some truly apposite and expert knowledge, advice and guidance to help us on our way.

This is certainly not to suggest that Synchron libraries are difficult to use. I'm merely acknowledging that a huge amount of world-class technical compexity has gone into the production of these superb libraries. Many users may wish not only to develop their own mixing skills and style, but also explore many possibilities in orchestration, virtual venues, stage seating, listener positioning, and mixing - including perhaps some quite unorthodox possibilities. The scope and flexibility are clearly there in Synchron libraries. And isn't this precisely where it would pay users handsomely to know and understand better the thinking behind Synchron library recordings and mix presetting - without of course VSL giving away any trade secrets?
