  • MIR and Synchron Stage B

    Hi,

I would like to mix a Synchron Stage B piano with other instruments recorded elsewhere, to create a chamber ensemble. Which room would you choose in MIR for the other instruments? And how would you choose the mics in the Synchron piano, to blend it with the MIR room?

I was thinking that the Studio Weiler's main hall could be the one sounding nearest to Stage B. Another room to try is maybe The Sage's rehearsal hall, with a short tail. Or, maybe, one of the rehearsal rooms at the ORF studios.

Also, should I use all the mics in the Synchron piano, and blend the different instruments with a bit of final artificial reverb, or should I only use the close and mid mics to make it sound dry?

  • My first call to match SSV Studio B would be ORF Funkhaus Studio 2 or 3, and Studio Weiler,. The mic settings depend a lot on your personal choices, though.

... no doubt that there is a real need for a MIRed version of Studio B! ;-)

    Best,

Absolutely! In particular, if this is going to be the room where you will record your dry, or most intimate, libraries. I'm thinking to an expansion of the historical instruments, that would make little sense in the bigger hall, but would sound great in a small, sweet sounding space like Studio B.
