    Hi Everyone, 

    Has anyone got a solution to Midi drop outs on the latest version of Logic Pro and VEP7? 

    I have recently upgraded both Logic Pro and VEP to the latest versions, after doing this midi noes have become unplayable. I have noticed Logic Pro has new settings and has reset my preferences, I am assuming it could be this, or how the data is being transferred over. Midi plays fine within the logic, but not via VEP. Its all types of vst on VEP server, not Kontakt or play etc.

    I am running-

    OSX Monterey Mac mini (Late 2014)) 2.6 GHz Dual-Core Intel Core i5 8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3. SSD 1TB

    VEP5 Server on PC, windows 10, SSD tb, 16gb. 

    All connected with a gigabit ethernet adapter. 

    Logic buffer size is 1024, 4 processing threads and large processor buffer range. 

    My vEP instance is 2 threads for multiprocessing, 48 midi ports, 32 audio outputs and audio inputs. This is the same with the VEP plugin on Logic Pro.

     

    Any advice or steps on what to do would be great, please let me know if you need any more audio examples.

    As I've posted at length in this forum, Logic Pro 10.7+ has serious bugs when working with either AUv2 or AUv3 versions of the VEPro client plugin. If you can roll back to Logic 10.4.8, I recommend you do so. There are no known workarounds for using either version of VEPro with the latest Logic.

    Someone here has been reporting that Logic 10.6 is ok, but I'm not convinced; I've been getting strange things happen with 10.6, and that "ok" report is not from a reliable source. Pending serious and trustworthy testing, I'm regarding 10.6 as suspect also.

    You haven't said what your template configuration is in Logic. From your description of the symptoms, I guess you're using the VEP AUv2 plugin (i.e. the older VEPro plugin which needs a workaround in the Environment for multiport operation) - is that the case?

    If you are a user of the old Environment workaround, make sure you use VSL's original version of the workaround when you roll back Logic - it's not perfect but it's far more reliable than the 3rd party version.

    LogicPro 10.7.3 is out today and specifically mentions fixes to AU3 handling with VePro7.  So far I am finding that its not dropping NoteOff's from some ports anymore.

    @Richard_111, you asked about Vep7 but then you said later you are using Vep 5?  I was a little confused.  But anyway, yes LogicPro version 10.7.2 had some serious bugs going on, let's hope they fixed most of them with this update today.  Please let us know how it goes.

    Looks like Apple is now attempting to actually hide the environment access.  They are referring to it as a "Legacy" feature only included for older projects.  I think this means Apple is going to get rid of the environment at some point in the future.  In the meantime, you see see that its no longer accessible from the Windows menu as before.  You have to hold down the OPTION key to see it appear on the Window menu.

    Richard, Logic 10.7.3 might have some important fixes for us. I'm currently setting up tests for Logic and VEPro in macOS Monterey, and will post as soon I have some meaningful results.

    Alas, Monterey itself currently will probably have its own limitations and drawbacks for many of us, and I for one don't regard it as mature enough yet for our kind of work. Nevertheless of course I'm very interested to see what Apple have and haven't fixed in Logic 10.7.3. The Release Notes, which have only just been posted by Apple Support, look promising; but as usual, especially with Apple software, objective testing is the only way to be sure.

    Monterey is working great for me.  Quite happy with it, my only complaint is that half a dozen programs, out of hundreds that I own, are not yet compatible with Monterey, but for the most part its working wonderfully for me.

    LogicPro 10.7 can also be ran on BigSur, but I recommend skipping Big Sur, Monterey has been much better for me.

    Richard, I've just posted the good and bad news about Logic 10.7.3 in a new thread.

    If you're still using an old VEPro AUv2 multiport template with a workaround in Logic's Environment, I'm afraid Logic 10.7.3 is not for you, no matter what workaround you may have.

    If you already have or are planning to build a VEPro AUv3 multiport template, Logic 10.7.3 may be good news - given, of course, that your devices, apps and plugins are fully compatible with Monterey (a few of mine still aren't).
