  • Anorak question - which mics were used for VSL recording

I was wondering what microphones were used for solo instrument recording, and also what arrays/configurations were used for ensemble sections.

Do you go for consistency of sound across the range and have the same mic setup for everything you do?

How did you go about designing the space to record the instruments?

Are these questions too big to be answered here?

Are you still recording 27 hours a day?!

  • Yes, eleborate on the mic issue, please. I recently bought a new mic and discovered a 'world' bigger than I knew 'till that time...

  • WOW! Wasn't surprised to see such an in depth and personal approach to the personnel side of the website! What a great looking bunch of guys - especially you Dietz! HA!

Thanks for that link. I had a great time reading all about VSL. I almost want to move to Vienna and apply for a job and join the family. Seriously though, seeing the musicians who play on my orchestral arrangements was wierd but really nice. Just reminded me that the samples are more than just bits and bytes, but real people. I can't wait to get back to the studio to carry on with current projects. Since buying Opus 1/2 earlier in the summer, I am looking forward to seeing "Orchestral samples from the Vienna Symphonic Library" in print below my name in the credits for the first time in about a week!

  • Heh, I love the 'Star Trek' style layout of the VSL team. Who's idea was that .. or are you all fans? ;D

One question ,which you probably won't answer ... but WHAT are you recording now. I mean with the pro-edition surely you sampled everything you needed. Other than the weird and unusual instruments .. what's left!!

Maybe your sampling my "Blaster Beam" ... PLEEEEEEEAAAASSSSEEEEEEEE!!!!!

Well anyways, when I have the money .. I'm sure I'll buy the rest! Any jobs going at VSL since you guys are obviously still doing stuff? ;D

    (Well, If I don't ask I won't know!)
