  • Protection plan with iLok

How will the Protection plan system work with iLok?

Will it be needed or will iLoks’ ZDT and Theft/Lost cover the insurances?

I just bought a plan, but haven’t activated it yet.

Can I choose to activate it to an iLok?

  • Hi,

The Protection Plan will keep on working for your eLicenser licenses for as long as it is active. We will stop selling Vienna Protection Plans as soon as we have made the transition.

For iLok, ZFT und TLC is the way to go. eLicenser and iLok are 2 different systems which will be kept separate.

    Best,
    Paul

  • Thank you Paul!

Do you know when you will make the transition?

Will you support 2nd generation iLoks?

  • Hi,

We will make the transition as soon as possible, and we will announce it on all our channels, and of course we will inform all our users via newsletter as well.

Yes, 2nd generation iLoks are supported, but if you want to get the most out of ZDT and TLC, you will want a 3rd generation iLok. TLC is not supported on 2nd gen iLoks.

CORRECTION: TLC is actually supported on 2nd gen iLoks!!

    Best,
    Paul

  • Thanks, I see!

I have a 3rd gen iLok on my Mac and some old 2nd gen iLoks collecting dust. I thought I could use one of them on my Windows machine - good to know that TLC is not supported on those.

Looking forward to the switch to iLok. I guess it’s going to be a lot easier to search and move licenses between keys compared to the eLicenser system.

Paul, I have a Protection Plan that doesn't expire until October 2022.

Your statement that such plans will not longer be sold implies to me that they will become obsolete and unneeded the moment the transition to iLock is made. By this I mean that it looks like iLock licensing will be sufficient protection.

If this is the case, I paid for a full 2 years of the current protection, but the remaining months of that paid for protection after transition will be a needless duplication of the protection that will be enjoyed by those who did not pay. Is this correct? Then what value for me is there in the fact that the Protection Plan will keep on working? What additional benefit do I receive for the final paid months of my Plan?

  • Hi,

The Vienna Protection Plan remains valid for as long as you have paid for it.
You can use your eLicenser licenses like you did before the thansition to iLok, and your eLicenser licenses are protected by your VPP, like before the transition to iLok.

No  additional benefit. Just stays like it is.

You will have enough time to make your personal transition to iLok, of course.

    Best,
    Paul

Are you sure? Is that something that is scheduled? According to iLok.com TLC Requires Second or Third Generation iLok USB.

  • Hi Hakan,

You are correct, I made a mistake there.

TLC is indeed supported on 2nd generation iLoks as well. Sorry about that!

This transition is taking longer than the Franco-Prussian War.

    Haha 😃

We're also learning that a comfortable transition takes a bit of time. Time well invested!
