  • VE Pro 7 dynamic level

    Hi everyone.

I'm finding quite a drop in dynamic level moving virtual instruments into VE Pro from the previous host (Sibelius).

    I'm using MIR for placement.

Does MIR affect dynamics a lot?  I know there are settings per instrument for accounting for air absorption, and distance etc.  Would be great if we could set these settings on a selection of instruments, rather than having to set them individually on each one (especially when there are 40 instruments on the stage).

Also seeing clipping, where I don't see it in the normal host.  I understand Sibelius has a limiter, however Sibelius only gets a stereo mix back from NotePerformer rather than a stereo feed per instrument.  So maybe NP is limiting in its mixer.

It just made me wonder what the headroom is in the VEP mixer - is it using 64 bit maths?  Dithering etc?

  • I did some tests.

There are a few things that affect the dynamic in MIR a lot.

If you use Dry Solo (e.g. if you want to use MIR just for placement, and another reverb), then the wet/dry mix is like another fader on the level.  The mid-point is a lot quieter than the dry/wet offset of 0.

So, if you just want the dry sound, you need to also move this fader.

The other thing I found that affects a lot is the "Distance Dependent Scaling".  This will attenuate the dry signal quite a lot.
