  • VSL compatible with Kontakt?

[*-)]: Hello. I'm totally new to this forum and to VSL. I've just been listening to the VSL demos and am utterly astonished by their authenticity. It is the best orchestral sample library I've ever heard. Amazing!

My question as a prospective and eager buyer is: will VSL operate with the Kontakt sampler? I will soon be buying Kontakt with disc streaming, which, I believe, can import from a wide selection of formats including GigaStudio. Can you tell me if the Giga version of VSL pro/cube will play reliably in Kontakt? I'm particularly keen to access the full set of VSL control, layering, and articulation parameters that are available for Giga. Perhaps there will be a version dedicated to Kontakt in the future - I hope so.

Also, I'm wondering if the parameters of my audio-computer setup can fully accommodate the VSL's potential. I have a P4 2.5ghz, 512 ram, 80 gb HD and Audiophile soundcard. Will I be able to achieve anything like the depth and variety of orchestration found on the user demos with such a configuration?

    Thanks.

P.S. I'm still shaking my head in disbelief at those VSL demos.

  • Hi Heath!

    Welcome!

Concerning Kontakt: Of course we are open to future platforms, right now we offer the Vienna Symphonic Libary First Edition for GigaStudio and EXS24. As soon as our (technical) "wishlist" is fulfilled, we will offer dedicated editions for other platforms as well. Reliability is an important point here, which is why we take testing very seriously (and believe me, you donĀ“t want to map and test 160.000 samples).

Let me quote you: "Perhaps there will be a version dedicated to Kontakt in the future - I hope so."

Concerning your audio-setup: We suggest 1 GB RAM for the Vienna Symphonic Library, 2.5 GHz will be very fine, 80 GB harddisc will not be enough, as the Vienna Symphonic Library First Edition comes with 90 GB of sounds...
I have to admit, that I donĀ“t really know your soundcard, can someone help me out?
    Please stay tuned!

    All the best, Paul

  • Thank you, Paul. I'll take that onboard with a view to upgrading my system.

Could you recommended a more complete min/max system spec that would do full justice to VSL? Or perhaps you could direct me to a page or thread containing that info. I'd be grateful if you or anybody could help.

    Best wishes
    Heath

  • where is the max? a minute after i write any numbers, it will be outdated[;)]
the processor-speed is not critical (also 1 GHz-systems as dedicated giga-computers will work fine), the ram has to be at least 1 GB (and unfortunately this is the max GS can use at the moment, but try to get some headroom regarding this to extend it if an updated software can make use of it)
again and always i would recommend W2K (if you like it more, XP) and formatting your harddrives with NTFS, to use SCSI-disks whenever you can afford and a soundcard with stable drivers (e.g. like the RME-series)
try to get a reliable chipset on your motherboard (like the 845E/G or better)
    and a really strong powers-supply
my two bit only, christian - you know: 0 and 1 [;)]

and remember: only a CRAY can run an endless loop in just three seconds.
  • and donĀ“t forget to include the Kontakt stuff in the FAQ, VSL guys. IĀ“m loosing the count for this very question. [[;)]]
