  • Cubase Expression map and VI pro

When using VI pro and the expression map for Cubase, say with jazz drums, should we choose a preset, a matrix or patches? This is not explained anywhere (I believe).

    Thank you for helping me.

p.s. I import the expression map for Cubase in Dorico.

  • Sorry if I can't check the drums, now. But, in general, you have to load presets. The expression map will navigate through the matrices and the cells.

If I remember correctly, with expression maps you have to use the dedicated presets.

  • Hello Claude Marc!

You can find Cubase Expression Maps and Drum Maps for the Jazz Drum at the following link:
    https://www.vsl.co.at/de/Notation_Related

Instructions on how to load them are included.

With the Jazz Drums it is recommended to use the VIFrames for VI5 that are included in the "JazzDrumsProjects_v2" file. This file can be downloaded under Tutorials/Templates in the MyVSL area of the Vienna Symphonic Library webpage.
    https://www.vsl.co.at/Tutorials_Templates

For other Vienna Instruments libraries, please load the VI presets that come with the Expression Maps.

For Synchron Player libraries you can use the factory presets.

    Best regards,
    Andi

  • Ok, thank you Paolo, and thank you Andi.

I did not see these instructions (I did look for it). I go back with glasses.

    Hum...

    1) In Dorico, the Drums instrument is divided, of course, into parts (Hit-hat, crash, etc.), and these parts each require a different midi channel.  How do I do this with VI Pro?

    2) OR with VE PRO, since Andi's templates seem to go through this?

I know VI Pro well but not in this regard.

  • Hello Claude Marc!

I thought that this thread is about Cubase. We don't offer Dorico percussion maps for our Jazz Drums. If you want to use this library with Dorico, you will have to create your own percussion maps.

The Jazz Drums projects I mentioned earlier in this thread don't require Vienna Ensemble Pro. They can be used with the free Vienna Ensemble too.

    Best regards,
    Andi

  • Hello Andi,

Dorico imports the Expressions cartes de Cubase. But it doesn't matter.

My question is, simply: in VI Pro, or VE Pro, how to assign each patch of jazz drums to a different midi channel? Is this possible?

Thank you in advance for enlightening me.

(After many years, the sound of the Vienna Jazz drums remains extraordinary)

  • Hello Claude Marc!

Please load the Jazz Drums project with Vienna Ensemble or Vienna Ensemble Pro. You will see that different instruments of the drum set are in different Vienna Instruments, but on the same MIDI channel. You can simply assign different MIDI channels if you need.

    Best regards,
    Andi

  • Thank you Andi, for your quick response. I'm going to my VE pro.
