  • 2.5 gb vs 1 gb

Would a 2.5 gigabit switch work better for ensemble pro?  Perhaps EP is not programmed to utilitze anything higher than 1 giabit?  Maybe even if it is, there would be no benefit?  My new motherboard supports 2.5 lan so I'm wondering if I should purchase a 2.5 switch?

  • Hi,

You can use network connections with a higher throughput, but it will be hard to get even close to the limits of a 1 GB connections.

Some basic calculations: One sample of audio is 4 bytes in size. So if the samplerate is 44100, for a single channel of audio, 44100*4 bytes is the size for one second of audio. 32 audio channels would thus mean 32*44100*4 = 5644800 bytes per second. So for 32 active audio outputs, VE Pro only needs up to 5-6 MB/s.

  • Paul, thank you for that info.  So it's unnecessary, just stick with 1 gb switches and I'll be fine.  I'm mostly using VEpro for rock-n-roll (effects) so I don't need that many tracks.

    Thanks again!
