  • Supporting product-locked VSTs in Vienna Ensemble

    Hi

There are products out there that will only load inside certain supported hosts.  This may be for technical reasons, e.g. they are relying on certain behaviour of the hosts.

Is there a way for a VST loaded inside the VE engine to query information about the remotely connected host software?  E.g. it would be great if the VST could query the module path name (e.g. binary name of the host) and the reported software product name and version.

Support for this could potentially allow product-locked VSTs to load in VE secure in the knowledge that the remote host won't be an unsupported product, which could lead to all manner of nightmares otherwise.

Maybe some extended audioMaster opcodes to query these things?

  • Hi Adrien,

This hasn't come up yet, in 12 years of VEPro, but I have added it to the wishlist, so our developers will evaluate the possibilities.

  • Thanks

Yes, one product that comes to mind is NotePerformer, which is locked to Finale, Sibelius and Dorico because it relies on functionality in those products.  I expect there are many many thousands of NotePerformer users out there, some of whom I know are interested in running it inside VE Pro.  It would of course rely on the NotePerformer developers deciding to support VE Pro, but that I believe won't happen as long as they can't lock it to some supported apps on the client side.

There may be other products as well.

So it could be worth it.

  • Hi Adrien,

Just heard back from our developers.

If you get the Note Performer developers to allow VE Pro. Otherwise there's nothing we can do about it, since it may be related to supportind undocumented APIs.

    Best,
    Paul

  • Hi Paul

It's not an undocumented API in this case, but I've taken this off-line and sent you a PM.

    Regards
