  • Cubase expression maps limit amount of articulation?

I downloaded the expression maps for Cubase and they seem to work fine but I notice that there is only a limited amount of articulations I can select compared to what is mapped.

When I select a note I can only select Non Legato, sforzato, short, marcato and tremolo while when I edit the expression map, there are plenty more articulations mapped. For example pizzicato is missing while this is clearly mapped in the expression maps.

Why would this be and how can I make them selectable in the articulations?

  • Expression Maps offer a lot of versatility and I've had to do a lot of work on mine to get them where I want them. I've never found the stock maps I've downloaded form Steinberg for the VSL libraries to match perfectly.

It would help to know which library you are referring to and which version of Cubase you are using.

I recently upgraded from Cubase 5 to 11 Pro because I wanted to make full use of the latest Synchron structure and needed more keyswitch levels. Cubase 5 allows up to 2. I needed up to 4, which Cubase 11 Pro can do.

That solved one problem. I would need some more clarity on exactly what the details of your dilemma are to be able to speak accurately to your benefit.

    Blessings, Sam

  • Thanks for the reply.

I am using Cubase 11 pro so that's not an issue. I'm also using the synchronized special edition. At the moment I only own the Volume 1 (might add more later... )

The problem I have is that although the articulations seem to be mapped, I am unable to select them from the midi editor.

  • Hello Yannick82!

From the articulations drop down menu in Cubase only the Attribute type articulations can be selected. You can add all articulations in an articulation lane underneath the key editor. You might have to add such and articulation lane in your project first.

By the way. I can see on your screenshot that you have a root note setting in the Expression Maps Setup window that will not work properly with our expression maps. Please set the Root Note in this menu to C0.

    Best regards,
    Andi

  • Thanks! I see them now in the articulation lane but maybe a silly question but how do I change those? I can't seem to drag/drop them from that lane...

  • Hello Yannick!

The Cubase manual should be able to help you with this question. Here is a link:
