    I’m trying to get audio into VEP7 from Logic Aux tracks (saving some processing cpu) but it seems the only way to do it is with the vep audio input plug-in and that apparently needs to be on a logic track with the main vep7 plug-in in the instrument slot. But logic aux tracks don’t have an instrument slot. Can audio be sent to vep7 from logic only from an individual instrument track?

    No, that isn't what is needed. You instantiate Audio Input as an FX plugin, and connect it to a server project in VEP. Now you may assign the audio to that connection. RTFM, pg 32.
