  • Key Switch Anomalies with Synchron Player and Finale v25

    Good evening,

Is there an updated keyswitch dump file for finale v25 and the Synchron player? I ask this because the Synchron player doesn't seem to get the articulations correct (e.g., will play detache when the correct articulation is legato). How do I go about resolving this?

  • Hello Illuminatus!

The keyswitch dump file for Finale that we provide works with Finale 25. Please note that you will have to insert the keyswitches in your score to change articulations.

If you want automatic articulation changes for the Special Editions, you will need to use the Human Playback Preferences that we provide as well.

For all other libraries articulations can only be changed with the keyswitch dump file. Instructions are included with the downloaded files.

  • Hi Andi,

It's not so much Finale v25 that I'm concerned about, but rather the Synchron Player. The Synchron Player isn't playing the correct articulation. I checked the human playback preferences to see if Finale even recognizes that Synchron exists, and for whatever reason no. I cannot even use the Synchron Player as a standalone application absent VE Pro 7. I think the problem may lie with Finale not registering the Synchron Player.

I tried the key switch dump again for all vsl libraries, but I'm not sure if it still works because I got an error: -12 or something like that when trying to change and open the .lib file. I changed the file type to .musx and then .mus and I got the same error message.

What's your recommendation in resolving this? You will have to be detailed in your answer because I'm not the most competent individual when it comes to computers.

  • I made some progress. I got the Key Switches expression tool uploaded. But now, how would I be able to tell which key switch corresponds to which articulation? Is there a document that I can read that will outline this?

  • Hi Illuminatus!

Good to read that you have managed to load the keyswitch dump file.

You can see the keyswitches in the Vienna Instruments player under X-Axis and Y-Axis and in Synchron Player in the dimension tree. More information about the basics can be found here:

  • I'm starting to get somewhat of a hang of it, but when I mix key switches only one tends to express itself. I would start off with Long notes - Legato - Legato Looped - Vibrato for the part that requires legato, then enter in a key switch for sustained. The outcome is the sustained ends up running the entire table. How can I mix key switches in the same score and make sure that each is appropriately expressed?

  • As you're discovering, Finale isn't very well equipped to handle things like this. My best advice is to create your own custom Human Playback settings for your library (which one?). There you can send 2 keyswitches for a given articulation. Then you can add a third keyswitch with the dump file.

  • That's what I'm doing, more or less.

  • Hello again, I’m definitely making progress, I had to use some creative logic for the Synchron Player to play friendly with Finale. One more thing: I noticed that when I use Vienna Suite Pro plugins, VE crashes. What are your recommendations for solving this?

  • Hello Illuminatus!

I'm sorry to read about your crashes. Please make sure to use the latest versions of the Vienna Instruments & Vienna Ensemble software, as well as of the Vienna Suite. If the problem remains, please send a crash-log to support@vsl.co.at and include information about the step that causes the crash and which OS you are using.

    Andi
