  • Dorico percussion maps: problem with snare roll dynamic changes

    Hi,

i have a problem making dynamic changes during a snare drum roll to work (see example). I'm using the Synchron-ized Expression Maps (Percussion map: VSL SYzd SE - Snare Drum)

    When i:

use the 35 Synchron Percussion > 03 Synchron Snare Drum

    • with Vel.XF disabled: plays the initial volume but obviously no cresc./decresc.
    • with Vel.XF enabled: plays the roll totally unaffected by the written dynamic or a manual change of the Vel.XF controller

use the 31 Percussion > Drums

    • with Vel.XF disabled: plays the initial volume but obviously no cresc./decresc.
    • with Vel.XF enabled: plays the roll in the dynamic set by the controller and can be manipulated by dragging the controller, but doesn't seem to get any instruction from Dorico.

    Do i something wrong?

    Thanks
    frave

  • Hello frave!

The patch SYNCHRON-ized Special Editions/35 Synchron Percussion/03 Syncrhon Snare drum is not prepeared for Velocity XFade. Please note that this patch is an extract of the Synchron Percussion I snare drum with only a few articulations. The full version includes rolls with two different Velocity XFade modes. One for making a crossfade and one for selecting the dynamic layer. The one that has been taken for the SYNCHRON-ized Special Edition is the one for selecting the dynamic layer. If you want to make dynamic snare drum rolls, please load the following SYNCHRON-ized Special Edition preset: 31 Percussion\02 Drums. Then enable Vel.XF.

    Best regards,
    Andi

  • Hi Andi,

i tried that already. I can confirm that i can change the dynamic of the 31 Percussion\02 Drums by dragging the Vel.XF controller manually, but it does not get changed automatically by the dynamics written in Dorico.

    Kind regards

  • Hi fraves!

You are right. This is not set up in the "Default" Expression Map. You can do that quickly by going to the Expression Maps menu. Select "Default"/Type: Base. Activate "Use Secondary dynamic" and select "Control change 2". I'll think about making a change for future versions where this is implemented automatically.

    Best regards,
    Andi
