I am not looking to be critical, but both e-licenser and iLok have been around a very long time, so I am surprised that transitioning from using one copy protection scheme to the other is such a big deal. But admittedly, I have no real knowledge as to what is involved.
Although someone earlier in this thread said otherwise, it seems logical to me that VSL would wait for iLok to be M1 native, which is yet to happen, before transitioning.

But it works with Rosetta 2.Not so for the MAS version of VE Pro unfortunately.

Re iLok. I don't know if/how this would make a diff, but Liquidsonics and others were already iLok apps, whereas VSL is making a transition from e-licensor.

  • Good idea, but why don't you spend the time getting the e-licenser server working again so we can use new sample sets purchased?
It's not been working today, and you don't mention this on your website - which I reckon is a pretty poor show really.

  • Hi,

Sorry about the troubles with eLicenser, seems like the release of Cubase 12 was a bit too much for Steinberg's license server.

Should be better by now, thanks for your patience!

FWIW, PACE announced M1 compatibility for iLok yesterday. So if that was an impediment for developers transitioning to M1, we should see more UB versions of plugins soon...and perhaps iLok for VSL

Yeah, hopefully we'll see VSL/M1 compatibility soon. Other software that I use, such as, VILabs and Native Instruments, that are Universal Binary, run soooo much better than VSL on my M1 MacBook Pro.

It's time VSL. Looking forward to the update.

  • Seriously cannot WAIT for this.  (both the ilok transition and the AS native MAS VEP).  So excited.

I see there is a tiered system for transitioning elicenses over to iLok depending on the year purchased. Will whose of us that will have to wait for a while get an email notification of when the iLok license is usable? Also the video you do explaining the transition refers to free s/w not being able to go to a hardware iLok - is the free Epic Orchestra we got when getting VEPro 7 fall under this category?

    Hi,

    Thanks for watching the video!

There is a lot of information already available in the provided link...

    To answer your questions:

    • Yes, of course you will be notified via mail when it's your turn to switch 🍸
    • No, Epic Orchestra 2.0 is not a free instrument.

    Paul

  • I've watched all the videos. Very well done. It's obvious you put the work into this to make the transition smooth as possible. Exciting times. Thank you.

A few questions not addressed in the videos (unless I missed it).

    1. Since there is no "deposit" button option when linking my VSL account to iLok, that means my spot in the boarding process has not come up yet. Correct?

    2. I currently own three VSL licenses purchased in 2019, 2020, and 2021. Will all three of those products be eligible for transfer at the same time?

    3. Based on the years my purchases were made, do expect my transfers to be eligible in a few weeks, months, or next year?

    4. Will the new Vienna Assistant (iLok) download an M1 (Universal Binary) version of Synchron Pianos?

    Thanks for the help.

    God Bless,

    David

    1) Yes.

    2) Yes.

    3) Rather weeks. We're watching the traffic.

    4) Not yet...

The VI Pro Player was converted as well. But we made it free for everyone 😊

  • As always, very nicely, stylishly and sensibly done, VSL! Super job! And thanks ever so for spoiling us yet again with another sale!

Love Vienna Assistant. It's somewhat similar to Native Access - which has been easily my fav and most trusted download/installation/update manager up to now - but of course VA has that certain Vienna finesse and charm, which sweeten its quiet air of world-class professional competence so well.

Having just bought another library, all my VSL products popped up quickly in iLok's License Manager after I hit the big "Deposit" button in MyVSL. I now have a long list of green dots in MyVSL and a corresponding display in VA's "Not Installed". But I'm taking just my new library for now then I'll get out of the way for as many days as I can. VSL servers have been super good and given me my usual steady 14 GB/s.

My new iLok3 USB key is on its way; I'll be using the iLok Cloud until it arrives.

The scariest bit for me was deleting all my current VSL installations - blimey that felt brutal. Lolol.

I'm in awe and admiration of all the VSL staff involved in this huge undertaking - hope there'll be some well-earned rest and recuperation going on soon. Thank you all. Much love.

I feel your pain about the deletions. That's one of many reasons I keep working clones of everything on my system so I can get back to a working arrangement ASAP.

  • Yeah, It is really frustrating that I have to re-download the sample files as transitioning from eLicenser to iLok.

I wondered if I could somehow re-use the existing sample files (download or installation) because I had a backup copy of them, by fooling Vienna Assistant on download/cache files, but it turns out that all the file content has changed. One can tell this from different md5 checksums (and filesize). So you wouldn't want to give a try like I did; it seems that we would need to re-download the new iLok-protected sample files again through Vienna Assistant.

Here are some tips I learned:

    - Download takes SOOOOO long time. For me, an average download speed 20MB/s would mean around 2~3 hours for downloading and installing a single instrument of ~250GB installation size. Therefore, it will be helpful to split your installation into a couple of iterations, by selecting and installing first a few, your commonly-used mics only, and then working on the remaining ones while enjoying the installed mics.

All that said, transition to iLok is fantastic! Congratulations and thank you VSL for the continued support.

  • Hi everybody,

tonight I started downloading the Synchron harp with the iLok license. This went well. I found a solution for my other libraries in my situation. I write it down here. Perhaps it can help other people.

    Problem:
It is not possible to use e-licenser licenses and iLok licenses of libraries, that are using the Synchron Player, at the same time on the same computer.
And I have 2,5 TB sample content, what I have to download. That is probably 5 or 6 nights, before this is finished. In that time I cannot use the samples, much to long for me.

    Solution:
I have enough space on spinning hard disks to download the installation files of the libraries. In the Vienna Assistant I check in Preferences "Download only mode". Now I download first all installation files of the Synchron and SYNCHRON-ized libraries, that I have.
When the downloads are finished, I start the installation of the libraries. I delete the old samples of the libraries (I need the space) and start the installation process (by clicking in the left upper corner of Vienna Assistant "Install from drive").
I install the Synchron player after the installation of the libraries. For this I uncheck "Download only mode". That makes the installation of the Synchron Player easier.

    Benefit:
in the days that I download the libraries I can work with the samples with the old e-licenser licenses. The installation of the libraries take some time (I think a few hours, and not several days). So for me this is a big time saver.

    Hi MMKA,

    Good strategy indeed.

New mantra for iLok: Everything you do, do it in the Vienna Assistant:

    • Installation
    • Uninstallation
    • Moving
    • Copying

And nothing can go wrong (said no experienced support team member ever 😎).

    Best,
    Paul
