The VI Pro Player was converted as well. But we made it free for everyone 😊

  • As always, very nicely, stylishly and sensibly done, VSL! Super job! And thanks ever so for spoiling us yet again with another sale!

Love Vienna Assistant. It's somewhat similar to Native Access - which has been easily my fav and most trusted download/installation/update manager up to now - but of course VA has that certain Vienna finesse and charm, which sweeten its quiet air of world-class professional competence so well.

Having just bought another library, all my VSL products popped up quickly in iLok's License Manager after I hit the big "Deposit" button in MyVSL. I now have a long list of green dots in MyVSL and a corresponding display in VA's "Not Installed". But I'm taking just my new library for now then I'll get out of the way for as many days as I can. VSL servers have been super good and given me my usual steady 14 GB/s.

My new iLok3 USB key is on its way; I'll be using the iLok Cloud until it arrives.

The scariest bit for me was deleting all my current VSL installations - blimey that felt brutal. Lolol.

I'm in awe and admiration of all the VSL staff involved in this huge undertaking - hope there'll be some well-earned rest and recuperation going on soon. Thank you all. Much love.

I feel your pain about the deletions. That's one of many reasons I keep working clones of everything on my system so I can get back to a working arrangement ASAP.

  • Yeah, It is really frustrating that I have to re-download the sample files as transitioning from eLicenser to iLok.

I wondered if I could somehow re-use the existing sample files (download or installation) because I had a backup copy of them, by fooling Vienna Assistant on download/cache files, but it turns out that all the file content has changed. One can tell this from different md5 checksums (and filesize). So you wouldn't want to give a try like I did; it seems that we would need to re-download the new iLok-protected sample files again through Vienna Assistant.

Here are some tips I learned:

    - Download takes SOOOOO long time. For me, an average download speed 20MB/s would mean around 2~3 hours for downloading and installing a single instrument of ~250GB installation size. Therefore, it will be helpful to split your installation into a couple of iterations, by selecting and installing first a few, your commonly-used mics only, and then working on the remaining ones while enjoying the installed mics.

All that said, transition to iLok is fantastic! Congratulations and thank you VSL for the continued support.

  • Hi everybody,

tonight I started downloading the Synchron harp with the iLok license. This went well. I found a solution for my other libraries in my situation. I write it down here. Perhaps it can help other people.

    Problem:
It is not possible to use e-licenser licenses and iLok licenses of libraries, that are using the Synchron Player, at the same time on the same computer.
And I have 2,5 TB sample content, what I have to download. That is probably 5 or 6 nights, before this is finished. In that time I cannot use the samples, much to long for me.

    Solution:
I have enough space on spinning hard disks to download the installation files of the libraries. In the Vienna Assistant I check in Preferences "Download only mode". Now I download first all installation files of the Synchron and SYNCHRON-ized libraries, that I have.
When the downloads are finished, I start the installation of the libraries. I delete the old samples of the libraries (I need the space) and start the installation process (by clicking in the left upper corner of Vienna Assistant "Install from drive").
I install the Synchron player after the installation of the libraries. For this I uncheck "Download only mode". That makes the installation of the Synchron Player easier.

    Benefit:
in the days that I download the libraries I can work with the samples with the old e-licenser licenses. The installation of the libraries take some time (I think a few hours, and not several days). So for me this is a big time saver.

    Hi MMKA,

    Good strategy indeed.

New mantra for iLok: Everything you do, do it in the Vienna Assistant:

    • Installation
    • Uninstallation
    • Moving
    • Copying

And nothing can go wrong (said no experienced support team member ever 😎).

    Best,
    Paul

  • The Vienna Assistant uses a very large UI that does not fit well in my laptop screen. Is it possible to define the resolution of the Vienna Assistant to 1920x1080?

  • Even though I'm waiting to get greenlit can I still download and install the Vienna Assistant now? Even before I do that what are the minimum system requirements for a Mac? Recently I got bit hard by a couple of developers who weren't completely forthcoming about system requirements - specifically their updates requiring a Metal compatible video card. That is something I don't have.

  • I just logged into my account and was really surprised about what I had to read. This is an absolute pita, what is coming there. iLok will never be installed on my Mac. Its like malware, installing all over the system with garbage. I am extremely disappointed. Maybe I am not the first writing this. But I don't want to go through this thread. So goodbye VEP7 :-(

iLok is NOT malware and it doesn't install allover one's system. It's possibly the best licensing program out there. Literally thousands of people use it with no problem. I'm glad VSL is dumping elicenser. And in case you haven't heard it so is the originator of elicenser - Steinberg.

  • Unfortunately its not possible to upload screenshots. So I have to type manually what all is installed. And this all is for more flooding my system with crap.

    /Library/Application Support/PACEAntiPiracy/LicenseSupport/lib/libpacefusion_shared.dylib

    Library/LaunchDaemons/com.paceap.eden.licensed.plist

    /Library/PrivilegedHelperTools/licenseDaemon.app

    /Library/Frameworks/PACEEdenExperience.framework

    /Library/LaunchAgents/com.paceap.eden.licensed.agent.plist

    /Applications/iLok License Manager.app

    /Library/Application Support/PACEAntiPiracy/LicenseSupport/bin/iloktool

P.S. Yes I know, Steinberg. Just made the transition flawless with C12. But also a lot of users had a lot of prbls with the transitions.

I don't see a problem. What do you think happens with other programs on a Mac? They put stuff all over the place. It's a few small pieces of code that does not hinder any performance. I'd rather have just the one license/authorization app like iLok. I'd say VSL made the right choice to protect their intellectual property.

Crikey, this scares me witless. I'm a composer (of sorts) and all I want is to use the VSL samples. I also want an ilok key as my computer will need replacement in a year or so, so from the user viewpoint the change is arbitrary - and it's a heck of a palaver to move everything over to this new system. It'll take a tract to time studying what I can and can't do before I even try to do it.

As to insurance, there's nothing as simple as the Vienna plan. Oh no, I go onto the ilok site, look up protection and there's a splurge of stuff that might as well be written in Assembler, I don't know about English. Nothing about guarantee. Something about needing to be seen every 90 days if I switch on something or other. No price information. And something to which I can't agree: "The best thing about TLC? It's included free with your ZDT subscription." There is no way I'm going to subscribe involving recurrent payments. I don't do that sort of thing. I haven't had to with the Vienna plan. So if I can't pay outright then I can't go with it.   I mean, why can't I just buy protection similar to the Vienna plan.

Thankfully my days with composing are almost up so it looks like I'll have to stick with the eLicenser and not buy anything new. A shame. This new thing offers no advantage. And it's a rip off. £40 for the key and no information on the price of insurance. I even have to set up an account to check pricing.

You don't happen to do cut price Aspirins do you?

Go to this page: https://www.ilok.com/#!faq and click on the ZDT tab and all will be explained. ZDT is $30 US/year and it's probably the cheapest insurance for your music work ever. I have 2 iLoks with ZDT on each. If you take the time and work through the bullet points you'll get answers to everything and you don't need to be a lawyer to figure it out. For instance you'd see that when you enable TLC that your iLok has to be seen by the ILM software and iLok site every 90 days when TLC is enabled. You don't need to enable TLC if you don't want.

  • No. Looks like I can't go with it, having read the T&C. How can I expect to buy insurance for which I have to pay an extra $100 if needed in the first week?

And they won't have any credit card of mine on their files. I have just one credit card and that's on paypal. For most of my Vienna purchases I use a debit card. PACE is up to a right racket!

Edit: totally frustrating. Since posting the first bit of this message have been trying to set up an account. There's always something wrong with my submission. When I found a user ID that wasn't already used (and a few I tried were far from common - someone's already nabbed my VSL one) it says "please check your entry for user ID" and I have to go through that wretched capture thing again. What the heck am I supposed to check.

I give up now (and go away before I get angry).

How much is your work worth? Granted having to use a credit card might not be optimal but if you want the insurance that's what you have to do. Again - how much do you value your work?

I'm assuming you're talking about setting up an iLok account. Make sure you're allowing cookies and not using any script blockers.
